Flit M2 (2026 – ) review

The FLIT M2 makes a strong first impression, with a hidden battery in the frame and cleanly managed cabling. The anodised aluminium finish gives it a smarter, more technical look than many other small-wheeled folders on the market. It is available in slate grey only with the overall design clearly prioritising everyday portability, with a fold measuring 797mm long, 600mm high and 305mm wide. At 14.5kg including the battery it is not featherweight in absolute terms, but for an electric folding bike it is impressively manageable. We managed to lug it in and out of the car as well as through the house without any issue. The folding mechanism can be a little fiddly but, once you’ve got the hang of it, it’s super fast to get the bike in or out of the fold.

The riding position is upright and well suited to urban riding. The standard set-up is designed for riders from 4ft 10in to 6ft, with an extended seatpost available for taller riders. As with most 16-inch folding bikes, the M2 feels more agile than planted, but that is part of its appeal in stop-start urban use. The single-speed drivetrain keeps things simple, while the electric assistance does the heavy lifting when pulling away or tackling inclines.

This is the M2’s strongest suit. It folds small, rolls neatly and is realistic to live with. The fold is compact enough for mixed-mode commuting and storage in tight spaces, while the parallel wheel arrangement means it can be rolled rather than carried everywhere. The removable 230Wh battery can be charged in or out of the bike, and mudguards and a kickstand help with day-to-day usability, though the 100kg maximum rider-and-luggage limit is worth noting if you’re a bigger rider.

Power comes from a 250W rear hub motor producing up to 35Nm of torque. While that may not sound that impressive, FLIT themselves have ridden the M2 up part of Yr Wyddfa, which is seriously impressive! We liked the dual-torque sensor, which makes the assistance feel progressive and natural rather than on/off. There are five assistance levels, and the quoted range is knocking on 35 miles depending on terrain, rider weight and assist setting. Although we probably wouldn’t follow in FLIT’s footsteps and take the bike up a mountain it was more than adequate for local inclines and responded well to extra effort required to overtake slow-moving tractors on country lanes. Hydraulic Tektro disc brakes front and rear are a welcome upgrade over cheaper folding e-bikes, giving reassuring stopping power when you need it.

On smooth surfaces (yes, they do exist in some very small parts of the country) the M2 feels efficient and eager. 16-inch wheels with Schwalbe’s Marathon tyres help the M2 to accelerate smartly, while the compact dimensions make it easy filter through traffic. As with any small-wheel folder, potholes are more noticeable than they would be on a regular bike, so bear that in mind when plotting your riding route. The rear elastomer arrangement in the frame adds a little comfort, however, without complicating the design.

Charging the 230Wh battery is inexpensive, and the single-speed transmission keeps maintenance simple. The 16-inch wheels may prove a little trickier than regular sized wheels to find tyres for but given the popularity of small-wheeled folding bikes, you should be able to find alternatives. It should be noted the M2 can be purchased via the Cycle to Work scheme, which may make the initial outlay easier to justify for commuters.

FLIT has built the M2 around a bonded 6061 aluminium frame and presents it as a robust commuter tool rather than a novelty folder, which is represented in the price and choice of components. The integrated battery and cable management reduce exposed clutter, which is encouraging for regular use and public transport knocks. As a newer model it does not yet have the same long-running reputation as say Brompton, but the specification is sensible and the locally-based support gives it an advantage over unknown online rivals.

FLIT offers a three-year warranty on the frame and two years on the electrics, which is competitive for an e-bike of this type. The brand also promotes servicing support from its Cambridge base, which is useful if you want the reassurance of dealing with the manufacturer.

The FLIT M2 comes with a handlebar display showing battery level and ride data, as well as integrated front and rear lights, hydraulic disc brakes and folding pedals. It also uses quality Schwalbe Marathon tyres, mudguards and a kickstand. The battery uses reputable LG cells, and it can be removed for charging, which is handy if the bike can’t be brought indoors.

The FLIT M2 is not the cheapest way into electric cycling, and riders wanting long-range touring ability, big-load practicality or maximum comfort on rough roads should look elsewhere. But the M2 doesn’t try to do any of those things. It’s designed as a premium urban folding e-bike. It is light, compact, neatly engineered and genuinely useful for people who need their bike to disappear under a desk, onto public transport, or are short on storage space at home. If that sounds like your daily routine, the M2’s price starts to become far more justifiable. Compared to other reputable e-folders it’s still cheaper than big names, but there’s no hiding away from it being such a niche user case.
