Chinese-owned motorcycle brands are growing in confidence and competence by the day, with names like CFMoto, Kove, Morbidelli and Voge all converging on the popular mid-size adventure bike sector with a wide choice of amazingly affordable machines.
Having impressed us with the DS900X and the DS625Xwe rode recently Voge has got another new mid-size adventurer coming, this time pitched square at the off-road end of the scale dominated by the likes of the Honda Transalp and Yamaha Ténéré.
Having impressed us with the DS900X and the DS625Xwe rode recently Voge has got another new mid-size adventurer coming, this time pitched square at the off-road end of the scale dominated by the likes of the Honda Transalp and Yamaha Ténéré.

For just £6,199 on the road this new DS800X Rally follows a similar path to previous Voge models with an incredibly generous spec, gutsy performance and – for the Rally – credible off-road ability. All for five grand less than the new Yamaha Ténéré Rally announced last year.
Powered by an apparently new 798cc parallel-twin engine, the healthy 94 horsepower and 81Nm are more or less on a par with the bigger and heavier DS900X, considerably more than the Yamaha, on a par with the recently updated Transalp and sure to mean healthy performance on- and off-road. This is combined with fully adjustable KYB suspension with 200mm of travel up front, 190mm at the rear and a neat radial steering damper incorporated into the headstock helping you stay on course even when the 21-inch front wheel is hunting out ruts and ridges in the rough. Radially-mounted Nissin brakes meanwhile take care of stopping duties.

Tubeless wired wheels with quality Pirelli Scorpion tyres are another pleasing sign, the Rally also getting rider modes and switchable traction control and ABS for maximum control off-road. A 24-litre tank should ensure plenty of touring range and, like other Voge models, there’s tons of kit including heated grips and seat, fairing-mounted ‘dashcam’, LED spotlights, engine protection bars, sump guard and more. If our recent exploits learning how to ride green lanes has got you fired up for off-road adventures this summer the DS800X Rally looks to have all you need for expeditions near and far, life over winter with its DS900X big brother suggesting Voge’s reliability and build quality deliver well beyond the expectations of the attention grabbing price.
