This stunning, café racer-styled sportster is Triumph’s just-unveiled Speed Triple 1200 RR, a faired and uprated version of its latest super naked roadster, and is, the British firm says, its ‘most-focussed and exhilarating Speed Triple ever’.
It’s based on Triumph’s all-new-for-2021, 178bhp Speed Triple 1200 RS super naked and features all of that bike’s performance, top spec cycle parts including Ohlins semi-active suspension and Brembo Stylema radial brakes, and sophisticated electronics, but adds a new cockpit fairing, revised riding position and much more. There’s a distinctive, round LED headlight, new carbon fibre in-fill panels, a full colour 5in TFT dash through which its electronics suite including five riding modes and cornering ABS and traction control can be adjusted, an up-and down quickshifter, track-spec Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres and even illuminated switchgear, cruise control and keyless ignition.
The revised riding position over the naked version, meanwhile, has been achieved via new clip-on handlebars, which are 135mm lower and 50mm further forward than the Speed Triple 1200 RS, plus a tailored new foot peg position.
In short it’s Triumph’s sportiest, best performing and most sophisticated bike since it last produced a litre-class sports bike, the old Daytona 955i, in 2006. Triumph themselves, meanwhile, stop short of calling it a superbike instead calling it: “A modern take on a café racer, and the ultimate sports bike for the road.” They add: “The new Speed Triple RR was designed to deliver all the incredible agility and pinpoint precise handling of a 765 Street Triple RS, with all the performance and attitude of the latest generation Speed Triple. And now the new RR takes the specification to an even higher level with new ergonomics and more advanced track-derived equipment, making it the most exhilarating and sport-focused Speed Triple ride ever.
“The 1200 RR has been designed to reflect the UK automotive world’s proud tradition of combining distinctive British elegance with exhilarating real-world performance. Creating a new dimension for riders who love the iconic nature of the Speed Triple with its unique character and road-focused sports performance, the new RR represents a step up in both beauty and capability, to deliver something more unique, more characterful, and truly authentic.”
This new RR comes in two two-tone colourschemes – ‘Red Hopper and Storm Grey’ or ‘ Crystal White and Storm Grey’ with premium gold detailing. Both come with a colour-coded belly pan and seat cowl, which is supplied alongside the pillion seat and is easily interchangeable. The new Speed Triple 1200 RR is priced £17,950 (or £2450 more than the new 1200 RS naked version) and is available to order now.
