Improve your performance

Measure, track and improve your advert performance and market share on Auto Trader using Performance Rating. Compare your advert performance to your competition and understand the response vehicles are achieving in search, advert views and converting leads.

What is Performance Rating?

Performance Rating is a measure of how your adverts are performing versus the market on Auto Trader. It considers all of the buying journey from search appearances, advert views to leads and connections. The higher the rating, the more market share you’re capturing and the faster you’ll sell vehicles.

Performance Rating explained

Every day we calculate how many search appearances, advert views and leads and connections an advert should be achieving based on the market of competing vehicles. This is our expectation for the advert.

We then compare it to what the advert generates - this is the performance rating.

We visualise this across four categories

All adverts on Auto Trader are ranked by Performance Rating. So that means all adverts in the ‘Excellent’ category are our top-performing adverts on Auto Trader today. In comparison, the adverts in the ‘Low’ category are our lowest-performing adverts. Maximising your adverts' potential by moving moving them into the green will mean you sell more vehicles more quickly. However speed of sale should be balanced with margin to meet your personal goals.

1-25 Low market share

Below rating

26-50 Below average market share
