There's no time for guessing when it comes to buyers. Buying Signals give you the power to understand exactly what buyers want, where they are in their purchase journey, and how to make the most of every interaction.
What do Buying Signals tell you about buyers?
Buyer intent
You'll know exactly how engaged each customer is and be able to identify who's most likely to make a purchase. This is based on their behaviour and interactions, which means it's not just what they've looked at, but the actions they've taken along the way – giving you a fuller understanding of their intent.
High intent
Are they high intent?
We analyse the behaviour of the buyer over the previous 7 days to see if they'd be considered 'high intent'.
Local
Are they local to you?
If the buyer is located less than 30 miles from your dealership, they're more likely to buy, and return for aftersales and more down the line.
Vehicle saved
Do they have your vehicle saved?
Having your vehicle saved to their Autotrader account or added to their basket are the signs that a buyer is going to commit.

Your questions answered
In order to identify high intent buyers, buyer behaviour across Autotrader is analysed to pinpoint the interactions that are the best predictors of a buyer going on to make a purchase. At the point the deal is submitted, the buyer's activity on the advert in the 7 days prior is analysed to assess whether they are considered high intent. This includes all behaviour on the advert, including return visits and the total time spent, which are strong predictors of a buyer going on to make a purchase.
The 30 mile radius was selected based on a combination of retailer feedback and analysis of buyer activity on Autotrader.
The buyer preferences details the types of vehicles the buyer is interested in based on the adverts they've been viewing on Autotrader. This includes make and model, age, mileage, body type, fuel type and colour. It also details how strong these preferences are. This insight is based on the buyer's 7 day activity leading up to the deal submission.
The preference strengths represent the proportion of the buyer’s advert views in the past 7 days.
Moderate: 10% of the adverts viewed by the buyer in the previous 7 days
Strong: 25% of the adverts viewed by the buyer in the previous 7 days
Very Strong: 50% of the adverts viewed by the buyer in the previous 7 days
Data is collected through tracking buyer behaviour (e.g. page views and clicks) on the Autotrader website and app - over 450 millions interactions every week. This data is then synthesised into actionable insight which is provided to a retailer alongside a deal.
Buying Signals will be available to all retailers who have Deal Builder on their adverts.
