Co-Driver image categorisation uses over 15,000 sample images of cars, vans and bikes to train a powerful AI image recognition model which labels an image based on the part of the vehicle the image best represents.

Co-Driver vehicle descriptions use Auto Trader’s rich vehicle taxonomy information alongside over 750,000 vehicle observations, specification of 8 million vehicles, and over 68 million consumer searches to craft a bespoke vehicle description which picks out the key information about the vehicle.

We have developed Co-Driver to help support retailers when building their adverts. The one-click AI functionality means a detailed and more complete advert can be generated instantly. The generated content is entirely editable, so the advert can be adapted and personalised by the retailer to suit their preference and tone.

Co-Driver utilises Auto Trader’s rich vehicle data and our comprehensive view of the vehicle parc to create a description which accurately describes an individual vehicle, unique to its specification, not generically to the vehicle model.

This does mean if 2 vehicles have very similar or identical spec, the advert description will likely contain similar information, but no two descriptions will be the same. We always encourage retailers to add their unique tone and personalisation to their descriptions where they can.

Co-Driver will mean that creating a more detailed and complete advert is quicker and simpler for retailers. The advert description will be generated uniquely to the vehicles spec and presented in an engaging way. Images will be re-ordered at the click of a button, and any important missing images will be highlighted based on consumer behaviour insights. This should get you closer to your great advert quicker.

Co-Driver, however, cannot replace the human element of advertising. This includes personalisation of the advert, presentation of the vehicle, and the capturing of vehicle imagery and video, as a few examples. Focusing on these differentiators are what will make your vehicle adverts stand out from the crowd.

Co-Driver will be available to all car and van retailers with a used vehicle selling package on Auto Trader. Bike retailers will also benefit from Smart Image Management as part of their package. This means all retailers will have an opportunity to benefit from a more complete and more engaging advert, generated at the click of a button.

Our advert attractiveness measure will still be calculated in the same way it is today, utilising our algorithm based on comprehensive consumer behaviours and insights. So, as always, more complete adverts are more likely to perform better on our platform.

Co-Driver has been announced with 3 initial features. Co-Driver Smart Image Management will be available from November 2024. Co-Driver AI Generated Descriptions and Key Selling Points will be available in early 2025.

This is just the start for Co-Driver as we plan to expand its toolbox of AI features in the future.
