The Auto Trader expert verdict:

4.7

The Coachman team has nailed double bed delights and practical layouts with an L-shaped lounge and levels of luxury in a caravan perfected from lessons learnt over the years. Features come together beautifully in a tourer that works better than most on the market. With style and spec sorted in spades, the Lusso will delight anyone on the road or on the pitch.

Reasons to buy:

  • tickFixed double bed.
  • tickGreat L-shaped lounge.
  • tickFantastic fridge.

At a glance:

Design

While hundreds of caravan reviews mention AL-KO ATC and it becomes a bit of a wallpaper effect, it’s important to remember just how effective that this is in ensuring stability on the road, inspiring confidence, and improving safety while you tow. You’re covered for all this when you hook up the Lusso. At eight-foot wide, the aerodynamics are impressive on the exterior but it’s the inside where the design comes into its own. The use of space is second to none. Keep reading to find out why.

Living

Style is key here, with the lounge area flooded in natural light thanks to windows aplenty and a rooflight that adds to the visibility no end. The Lusso’s near-monochrome furnishings and upholstery make for a living space that looks chic and incredibly easy on the eye. The Lusso’s L-Shaped lounge means that there’s space to seat a family (both models are four-berth) or kick back as a couple, but the best thing about this layout is that there’s a sensible space for your TV and a few other items next to the door, which doesn’t intrude with the rest of the storage availability. There are plenty of power points and enough USB sockets to power even the most device-hungry of lifestyles, too. If you’re looking for a social setting then you’re sorted no matter where you want to hang out. However, if you want a bit of privacy to read or rest, the privacy door to the bedroom can be pulled across to create a separate ‘room’ while other members of the family get on with their day.

Dining

Alongside the Thetford fan assisted oven and grill, the kitchen space has a surprisingly deep countertop for your cooking convenience and prep. In addition, there’s also a fold-out worktop that sits above the sofa, which is perfect for serving dishes or just to give that extra option for space as you plate up to the freestanding table. On the other side to the kitchen, there’s also a towering Dometic 133-litre (Lusso I) or 177-litre (Lusso II) fridge freezer that will easily keep all your essentials and more cold for some great grub on-site. Even the microwave has been upped in the style stakes, with the traditional silver look gone in favour of a white finish detailed with the cool Lusso triangles logo to the bottom of the door.

Sleeping

The transverse island bed is huge and retracts when not in use for a spacious living area around it, while still being great for lounging on if needed. In addition, storage is great here too thanks to a large wardrobe and cabinetry above the bed itself. While the shelf areas either side of the bed aren’t huge, they’re perfect for your bedside table needs. Whether you’re keeping your phone nearby or resting a book down within arm’s reach as you drift off to sleep, there’s more than enough room here.

Washroom

When it comes to a luxury caravan (and a luxury price tag), the washroom is one of the places that often gives the game away. Not with Coachman, though. As soon as you walk in, the natural light, the heated towel rail, the high-level storage and an incredible basin with even more decent storage underneath all live up to the luxury claim. That’s even before you take the massive mirror and ample shower cubicle into account. The sliding door here is a real space saver, too, reminiscent on some of the luxury-level Adria’s that took the market by storm a few years ago. Top marks.

Value for money

One of the biggest benefits not yet mentioned in the value stakes is the E&P self levelling system, meaning that you no longer need to spend time crawling around on your hands and knees frantically waving a corner steady winder around. At £40,660 for the Lusso I single-axle caravan and £44,150 for the Lusso II twin-axle tourer, it is a case of you get what you pay for, but in a very positive sense. The features included in both models, as well as the practical design and ease of living that these Lusso models offer, make for an attractive buying option whatever your caravanning needs.

Why buy?

It’s the little details such as the soft-close locker doors throughout; the spacious feeling with a good level of natural light, plus mood lighting when night falls. Not forgetting the ease of use with plenty of tech – these are the things that make the Lusso a place of luxury and deserving of your attention, whether you’re after a single or twin-axle caravan.
