If you're a truck driver who spends most of the time on the road, then you will know all too well the importance of finding a good truck stop. Whether you are driving for a few hours or an entire week, it's crucial that you get regular rest breaks during your journey. Pulling up and getting some fresh air will keep you feeling refreshed and energised. As you have probably come to realise, a tired and overworked truck driver is not a good combination. 1. Ashford International Truck Stop, Kent
If you are making your way over to France via the Euro Tunnel, then the Ashford International truck stop is ideally located. Voted as the best truck stop in 2016, you can expect excellent facilities and services. Tuck into wholesome food at the gourmet restaurant, save your data and connect with loved ones at the internet cafe, or re-energise at the onsite gym. For truck maintenance, there is a truck wash, lorry repair centre, and a shop filled with plenty of supplies. If you're simply looking for somewhere to relax, then kick back in the spacious Sports Bar complete with a flat screen TV. Other features include secure parking, showers, toilets, and a place to do your own laundry.
2. Berchem Station, Luxembourg
As the largest Shell truck stop in the world, you can expect to find plenty of space to relax. Brimming with lots of food and drink options, this popular stop is located in Luxembourg. Great for when you're feeling hungry on the road, it boasts plenty of famous food outlets including McDonald's, Starbucks, and Deli2Go. Offering a little something for everyone, Berchem Station is also well known for its cheap fuel. Along with toilets and showers, there is also 100 parking spaces, truck security systems and a large shop.
3. Portsmouth Truck Stop & Lorry Park
This is another well-located truck stop, just five minutes from Portsmouth's international port. What sets this stop out from the others is the onsite overnight guest rooms. This highly affordable shared accommodation is perfect for those long journies. If you're feeling a little tired and find yourself in need of a comfortable bed, then this stop ticks all the boxes. On-site you will also find a cafe, washrooms, free WiFi, and 60 secured parking spaces.
4. Calais Truck Stop, Calais
Whether you are returning back to the UK or just starting your journey across Europe, resting up in Calais is a good choice. Park up your vehicle in the secure car park area and head on over to the driver's relaxation room for a little R&R. Enjoy tea, coffee, and bites to eat at the cafe, along with a cosy TV room where you sit back and relax. With an impressive 293 parking spots, the Calais Truck Stop will never be short on space. Stay fresh with showers, toilets, and a laundry room. If you need to take care of your vehicle then there is also a tank cleaning and truck wash area complete with state of the art technology.
5. Road King Holyhead, North Wales
Packing some excellent facilities, the Road King Holyhead in North Wales caters well to all of your trucking needs. Just a five-minute drive from the port of Holyhead, you will find all-day breakfasts and home-cooked meals at the 24/7 restaurant. The bar is complete with a pool table, WiFi, and a large screen TV. It's here that you can meet fellow drivers and catch up on the latest sporting news. On top of that, there is single room accommodation available to all drivers. The on-site 24-hour car park is available to all HGVs and is secured with CCTV cameras, high fences, and barrier control. Other features include showers, toilets, laundry services, a trucker shop, and free flask refills.
