If you have the most amazing machine in the world, at a very low price but your pictures are not good quality, it won’t get noticed.
You don’t need an expensive camera, most phone cameras will do. What really matters is how you photograph your machine and all its details. Here are our top tips:
  • 1. Prepare your machine as thoroughly as possible, to do this make sure you clean it and check everything works properly. We have more information on this here.
  • 2. Pick a good location to take your photos. Remember that thing a buyer will see is likely to be a small thumbnail, so you need your pictures to be as clear as possible. If you can find one, an uncluttered background is best as the equipment will stand out better and the viewer won’t get distracted by the location.
  • 3. We know these are rare in the UK, but the perfect day to take your pictures is on a dry, sunny one. Get as much natural light as possible in your pictures.
  • 4. Remember to show off every feature of your machine - you can upload 20 pictures on Auto Trader Farm so use this to your advantage. Take your time, shoot different photos e.g front, back, sides and close ups. Make sure you take pictures of any faults or damage too - a potential buyer will only be annoyed or disappointed if they come to view your machine and there is damage they were unaware of.
  • 5. Don’t be arty. People are interested in your machine, not your photographic style.
Professionals spend hours taking their photos, your advert will benefit from you spending some time to get the best pictures you can. That way you can show your farm machinery in its best light.
