The Volvo EX30 is big news in the world of electric vehicles. In true Volvo style it offers safety, practicality, and Scandinavian chic, but it’s the price that will grab your attention. Smaller than the XC40 Recharge, the EX30 is a considerably cheaper EV, starting at £33,795. This puts the premium badged Volvo up against value brand models like the Hyundai Kona and the MG ZS EV. You might wonder whether there is a catch, but fear not, this is still very much a Volvo.
To that end Volvo has been environmentally conscious when designing the EX30 to make its CO2 footprint as small as possible. Recycled materials have been used both inside and out, with reused aluminium, plastic and steel making up a considerable percentage of the exterior. The four interior colour options have all been inspired by nature and 30 per cent of the plastic is recycled. Meanwhile there’s a smaller battery pack option that’s not only cheaper but uses less resources to make, although you’ll get fewer miles between charges. If speed is your priority, Volvo has you covered with a twin-motor EX30 with lots of power and impressive acceleration, making joining motorways and overtaking easy. Volvo says that being fast off the mark is a safety feature in itself, and the EX30 is equipped with plenty more driver aids to protect those both inside and outside of the car. In this video Alex walks you through everything you need to know about this petite Volvo SUV. From battery size to trim levels, hidden cubby holes to clever safety features, Alex shows how the EX30 is a prime example of a good thing in a small package.
