The Seat Leon Cupra is the hottest Leon from the Spanish manufacturer. It shares many of its components with the Mk5 Volkswagen Golf GTi, although its potent engine is a closer relation to the even quicker Audi S3.

Seat Leon FR TDI hatchback (2005 – ) six month test 6/6
Looks and colour: The Leon is one of the most eye-catching hatchbacks on the road. The Lumina Orange paintjob with black wheels is an added bonus. Performance: A 2-litre diesel engine doesn’t sound like a recipe for a stonking performance car, but its mid-range punch makes for exceptionally quick overtaking. And the more miles the car travels, the faster it feels.

The Seat Leon FR TDI might not be a car for the pragmatic buyer – there are more cost-effective cars on the market – but it’s certainly a bit of a bargain for the enthusiast. Its £19,000 asking price puts it £5,000 less than the Volkswagen Golf GTD, £4,000 less than an Audi A3 S Line and £2,000 less than the Skoda Octavia VRS.
