Volkswagen adds GTS trim to Scirocco range
Friday 21 December 2012
• Flagship GTS trim joins Scirocco range
• Based on R-Line trim, available with two engines
• Prices start at £27,945, with orders starting on January 2, 2013
A new flagship GTS trim has joined the Volkswagen Scirocco coupe range. Based on the existing R-Line trim, it adds a unique package of styling and equipment.
The most notable part of the package is a pair of black or white stripes running the length of the car, red- or white door mirror caps, bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof.
Inside, it comes with black leather upholstery with red stitching, a golf ball-style gearknob, the GTS logo on the steering wheel and sill plates, and floor mats with red piping, while the decorative facia inserts are in Piano Black and Black Peak and the door handles in Piano Black.
This is all on top of the standard R-Line specification, which already includes sat-nav, climate control and Bluetooth.
The new trim comes with either the 2.0-litre TDI 177 PS or 2.0-litre TSI 210 PS engine, and a six-speed manual or DSG gearbox. Prices run from £27,945 for the TSI manual to £29,395 for the TDI DSG, an increase of around £800 over the R-Line model, and orders are being taken from January 2, 2013.
At the same time, Volkswagen has announced a special edition of the new Beetle. Developed with guitar maker Fender, it comes in just one colour – black – and only with the 2.0 TDI 140 diesel engine.
It stands out from other Beetles with its rear spoiler, 18-inch ‘Discus’ alloy wheels, and a Fender badge on each front wing. Inside, the car comes with a dash panel in ‘Sunburst’ wood, like a classic Fender guitar, as well as a 400-Watt Fender sound system, complete with a boot-mounted subwoofer and illuminated front speaker mountings.
Also standard are VW’s multi-device interface, climate control, front and rear parking sensors and bespoke ‘Cheyenne’ cloth seats with leather-look side bolsters.
Like the Scirocco GTS, the Beetle Fender goes on sale on January 2, and costs £23,015 for the manual model, and £24,610 for the DSG.
