The current 5008 is a firm favourite for large families and even won Best Seven-Seater at our New Car Awards last year. Like all manufacturers, Peugeot is working to become more sustainable and aims to offer a pure electric option for each model by 2025. The all-new E-5008 will help Peugeot move one step closer to this goal, using the same underpinnings from the E-3008 and elongating them to accommodate an extra row of seats. Peugeot says the new E-5008 will be a comfy and stylish seven-seater and we look forward to discovering how close to the promised 410-mile range it will achieve out on the road.
• The all-new E-5008 will replace the current 5008, Peugeot’s largest SUV • As with the E-3008, the E-5008 will feature the Peugeot’s sweeping digital driver display, customisable ambient lighting, and integrated Chat GPT • Peugeot will offer a long-range version of the E-5008 with a claimed range of up to 410 miles • Orders will be taken from Autumn 2024 • No word on pricing, but we predict electric models will start at over £50,000

Design and models available

Inside and out the E-5008 will look a lot like the new E-3008. It will feature the distinctive Peugeot styling with sharp headlight clusters above the three claw-like LED strips on either side of the grille. Like the other models in Peugeot’s line-up, the new E-5008 will have two trim levels at launch, entry-level Allure, and range-topping GT. All models will come with a reversing camera, and various driving aids. The GT cars gain adaptive headlights, two-tone paint, a heated steering wheel and powered tailgate. With sustainability in mind, the E-5008 will not feature any chrome-plated exterior parts and recycled plastics will be used for the bumpers, storage bins and interior carpets.

Interior and tech

The main interior feature of the E-5008 will be the 21-inch curved screen supporting Peugeot’s latest version of its i-Cockpit. Drivers will look over the small steering wheel to see information displayed in their eye-line with shortcut icons accessible on a smaller touchscreen below. We thought this looked very smart in the E-3008 when we tested it recently. All models will come with Peugeot’s i-Connect infotainment system supporting both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and featuring a TomTom powered sat-nav with route planning capabilities. It also supports voice control with integrated ChatGPT. Peugeot is aiming for a premium finish on the E-5008 and will use ambient lighting and aluminium trim to elevate the feel of the interior. For those sitting at the very back of the car, the second row of seats tilts and slides allowing access to row three. Peugeot says this will be easier than the current 5008 and the large, wide-opening rear doors should make clambering in a breeze. We’ll have to wait to see how straight forward this really is and whether there will be enough room for adults. However, to add to the sense of space there will be a large panoramic glass roof, part of which you’ll be able to open.

Batteries/range

The E-5008 will use the same battery technology first introduced in the E-3008. There will be the same choice of variants, starting with a single motor version with a 311-mile range. There will also be a long-range option with a bigger battery expected to do just over 400 miles on a charge. Additionally, Peugeot will offer a more powerful, all-wheel drive version using the smaller battery that it also expects should be capable of around 300 miles. The E-5008 will be covered by Peugeot’s new Allure Care Programme covering components for up to eight years or 100,000 miles. As with the E-3008, the E-5008 will be launched alongside a hybrid model, with a plug-in version expected in 2025.

Price and release

Peugeot will start taking orders for the new E-5008 in Autumn 2024. As yet it has not shared any information on pricing. The E-3008 starts from around £46,000, so we wouldn’t be surprised if prices for the E-5008 began at over £50,000 with the hybrid 5008 being significantly cheaper.

What other cars from Peugeot are due this year?

Peugeot has just launched the E-3008, the first car from parent group Stellantis to use its latest electric foundations. This can be found alongside the recently updated E-208 and the new E-308. We are also still waiting for an all-electric option for the 408, which we expect to arrive soon.

What other cars that are upcoming will this compete with?

If you are after an electric car seating up to seven there’s an increasing amount of choice. Kia’s mega SUV, the EV9 will soon be joined by the closely related Hyundai Ioniq 7 adding to the mix. Meanwhile Peugeot will be hoping the E-5008 will be considered premium enough to compete with the Mercedes EQB and that its striking design might tempt buyers away from the seven-seat version of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz when it arrives.
