Audi S5 car reviews
The Audi S5 Cabriolet is a seriously rapid drop-top. However, there are cheaper ways to wind-in-the-hair thrills, and performance is noticeably blunted compared to other S5 variants.

Quick, refined and with five-door practicality, the Audi S5 Sportback has plenty of appeal. Uninspiring dynamics let it down, though - it’s no BMW 3 Series around the corners.

It might be overshadowed by the quicker RS5, but don’t let the understated looks fool you. The Audi S5 Coupe packs a 349bhp punch, has the security of Quattro four-wheel drive and a high quality interior with practical boot.

Car enthusiasts in Britain are an enigma. Not only do we fail to experience weather good enough to provide plenty of chances to drive a convertible hood-down, but our pothole-ridden roads make it difficult to drive fast. But that doesn't stop us buying quick drop-tops by the truckload. Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar…the list goes on. And now Audi has upped the ante with another big, fast convertible – and this time it's not an Audi A4.

The Audi S5 is the spiritual successor to the quattro of the 1980s. The rapid, svelte two-door coupe is a handsome beast that cuts quite a dash on the road. It would be easy to write the S5 – and the whole Audi A5 range – off as simply a two door Audi A4, but it should be much more than that. Stuart Milne went to Warwickshire to find out if the Audi S5 is a worthy heir to the original quattro's crown.
