Super little Jeep

SUZUKI JIMNY 1.3 JLX 3dr (Review date: 10th February '13)

Brought this for a £1000 from a friend who had owned it from new about 5 years ago, we live in country, it earns its life with us, dogs are piled in, it never stops. We are having lambour sensor probs at the moment- but its the light not an actual problem as such.

We would get another , its fun. Shopping does tend not to go in to well as we have the soft top version and its opening not too big.

Petrol - tank is too small so fill up a lot but it doesnt cost too much when you do.

Dont expect it to perform like a sports car- trust it and it will lokk after you

A vehicle I can rely on whatever the weather

SUZUKI JIMNY 1.3 VVT JLX + 3dr (Review date: 19th January '13)

4.3

I bought my firsy Jimny about 18 months ago. it was five years old and had covered 18000 miles.with full main dealer service history I paid 6k for it. Since then it travels 20000miles per year in all weather travelling the length of Wales weekly .Its only cost me the price of its services and tyres .I travelled yesterday 160 miles through heavy snow. No motorways or dual carraigeways all rural on A & B roads, through a very hilly/mountainouse area.

The Jimny never missed a beat , it took every thing in its stride even drifting snow up to its bumper. I only stopped twice due to frozen windscreen wipers.

The jimny is simple and reliable it does not have the comfort or myriad of electrical accessories found on modern road cars ,but for the price I cannot fault it.. I also have a new defender. station wagon. but would not get rid of the Jimny unless its for a new one. Finally I get about 35 to 38 mpg but saying that never push the jimny over 60 and most journeys are 100 miles plus.

Suzuki Jimny 1.3 manual

SUZUKI JIMNY 1.3 JLX 3dr (Review date: 23rd December '12)

4.8

To be honest we have always had a jimny in the family. This last one has been owned for 2yrs and is 02 reg . Its serviced every year [most important i think] kept cleaned and polished and waxoyled underneath every year . These little 4x4's will go anywhere in any weather . They will carry 4 people at a push .

Off road these little crackers just come alive

On road you need to drive them with intelligence as they are small "high " "narrow " "and 4x4''s" simple really if you think about it.

My family doesn't have any probs

Reliability is 2nd to none , just keep going and going . Just service it . Tax is high but thats the powers that be isn't it . GET ONE NOW.

a nightmare the worst car i have ever owned

SUZUKI JIMNY 1.3 JLX Mode 3dr (Review date: 10th September '12)

1.5

i took my time when choosing my jimny.i have owned two wagon rs .my wife has a 07 ignis which i cannot fault. i bought a 04 jimny mode with service history and vg condition the first week i loved it but then i realised the mpg was very poor you are lucky to get 25 mpg round town . off road the jimny might be good but on the road it is a nightmare its not for the faint hearted. on the motorway its ok at 60 but if you have to overtake at 70 it is scarey.two weeks after i got it i lost control on a roundabout doing 20mph in wet conditions the road holding is poor.i like suzuki cars for their realiabitley and build quality but the jimny is without doubt the worst car i have ever owned

Practically perfect in every way

SUZUKI JIMNY 1.3 VVT JLX + 3dr (Review date: 26th April '12)

4.5

I was a little unsure about buying the Jimny (new), but we took one for a test drive and loved it. For me it's allure was heightened further when I looked underneath to find a far more serious build than I was expecting (more akin to a 3/4 scale land rover defender than an inexpensive Japanese 'soft roader'). And that comes from a 7 times land rover/range rover owner.

The first weekend we had it we took it off to the boggy woods near us and had some fun. This showed up two things, one good one bad. The good being that it really is a serious little 4x4 with far more ability than you'd expect. We had it up to it's axles in mud and it never faltered. The not so good being that like many modern cars the paint is very thin, with even light scratches from branches taking their toll (if you're going to go off road then wax polish it first, which helps enormously).

On a day to day basis we loved it (we had it 2 years), and in addition to the other reviews here our observations are as follows:

1. Some folk talk of the limited leg room/small boot etc. We say that you bought a Jimny so don't expect it to be a Discovery. It's fine.

2. Expect around 35mpg in general town and country use. More on runs, less in traffic.

3. Go for the half leather option if kids or mud are involved as it makes wiping down much much easier.

4. Again it's a Jimny, so don't expect Audi quality plastics inside. The dash etc will mark easily (and permanently) when scratched by kids boots and dogs claws.

5. If using in snow/ice engage the 4x4 early to avoid tail slides from the otherwise light back end.

6. It really is an very easy car to drive day to day, with soft suspension, big mirrors, big doors, good visibility and easy 'flip down' rear seats.

In summary, the Jimny is a really super car. We swapped it for a Nissan Micra C+C on non-resistance from our 6 yr old son who wanted a car "where the ceiling comes off" (another good car like the Jimny, loved by it's owners but derided by Top Gear and BMW drivers), but are considering going back to a Jimny for it's unbeatable combination of all round fun and ability. Borrow one for a few days and I promise you'll buy one.

brilliant workaholic

SUZUKI JIMNY 1.3 VVT JLX 3dr (Review date: 8th April '12)

4.8

I just cannot praise this car enough for the work it does for me. Forget the glamour and the fancy bits, but who really needs auto window wipers anyway, this is a brilliant down to earth machine.

I use it virtually daily, it will go anywhere in the mud or snow and is just great fun to drive. We bought it new, and it is now 5 years old having been serviced every year. It has everything thrown at it and in it, and yet when cleaned (at least twice a year) just comes up gleaming.

I really think it is one of the best value for money cars on the road.

One thing I did do and that was to fit 50/50 tyres. Huge difference, grips very well in all weathers and feels much more solid (and quiet interestingly) ON THE ROAD.

Fun fun fun! It might not go fast... but it goes anywhere!

SUZUKI JIMNY 1.3 JLX Mode 3dr (Review date: 30th November '11)

4.3

Look after this car and it will look after you. Service it, clean it and pamper it. Solid, reliable and quirky the Jimny is nothing but fun. Despite it's 4x4 capabilities it is never more appreciated than when it's being thrown around the city streets thanks to it's responsive nippy little engine, easy manouvering, excellent seating position and massive mirrors enabling the best possible view both ahead and behind.

If you do take this car off road you will be pleasantly suprised. It is as capable as any other modern 4x4 on the market but without the extortionate price tag. This car really was made to be played with.

It's for you if you want a fun city car, a capable 4x4 or 2nd run around. Use it and abuse it. As long as you loook after it, the Jimny will really go the extra mile.

This car is not for you if you regularly need to carry more than 2-3 adult passengers. It also isn't ideal for long motorway trips over 60mph as it is aerodynamicaly challenged causing high fuel consumption, an uncomfortable ride, high revs, quite noisy and feels heavy side winds.

For me reliability is key and the Jimny certainly delivers that time and time again. Nothing breaks. This car will get you there whatever the weather.

Cheap, fun. practical and plenty of charm

SUZUKI JIMNY 1.3 JLX 3dr (Review date: 27th August '11)

4.5

I got my Jumny from eBay for £1500 becauuse i live in the country and got fed up of pot holes mangling my alloy wheels and was interested in a cheap 4x4 after I had hired one on holiday.

I love my Jimny. Yes it throws itself all over the road and shakes all of the knots out of my muscles and isnt the quickest engine on the planet but, I had my converted to LPG and havent looked back!

Its full of character, is great fun with the roof off and cheap to run... I will be keeping my Jimny until it completely falls over and I have to scrap it.

If you are all about the smooth ride, plush interior and accessories then this isnt the car for y ou however, if you want a fun and practical car that drives well in all weather conditions (exeptional in the snow) then this is the car fo ryou!!

I love my Jeep and I am only selling it as my mother (who I care for) can no longer get in and out of it. It is great for summer days out, easy to park, and good visibilty as you are positioned high up. It has low running costs to to only being 1.3 and have been loving cared for, for the last 3yrs. It does have a CD/Radio player. I hope you love this car as much as i have done! happy buying!
