Fantastic car, unlucky auto gearbox
RENAULT MEGANE SCENIC 2.0 16V Privilege Monaco 5dr Auto (Review date: 25th June '14)
One of the best people carriers you can get hold of. The second generation Scenic is practical, sporty (with the right engine), holds anything you throw at it and comes with enough kit to make anyone happy. Fun to drive and great driving position, which is hard to leave behind when you go back to a saloon car.
This model has twin electric tilt and slide sunroofs...which is brilliant on a car this size. Twin split rear tailgate; perfect for those long pieces of wood or beds. Digital aircon, CD changer, full electrics all round.
The only thing missing was cruise control, and that's if you want to be really picky.
The auto-box can go if its thrashed around, but costs half the price of an Audi or Jag to replace. Parts are cheap, tyres don't cost more than average and parts are easy to come by.

Ok. So I bought this car not too long ago, a W Reg (2000) and at 14 years old, it would have obvious wear & tear but it was really amazing condition. This is the best car I have owned in over 20 years of driving. Thanks to ERS Garages who sold it to me at the bargain price of £675! Oh my god though it really handles well, I have recently been on holiday, 3 hours there and back and didn't even make a single gesture that it was tired. Very quiet. 5/5!!
10 years trouble free motoring then it went bang

Bought this car brand new and had over 10 years happy driving in it from weeks away with 3 bikes on the back to mercy dashes to hospital its done it all even managed to fit 6 full size interior doors in it when we moved house.
Having the ability to remove all 3 rear seats is a handy feature when making trips to the tip/car boot sale/moving house.
its typically french with its reliability didn't go wrong for over 10 years and then the timing belt tensioner seized taking with it the timing belt and the top end of the engine, then Renault fitted faulty valves that completely destroyed the engine, Renault then had to shell out ## on a new engine!!!!
All in all a very good family car

This is my first MPV and honest what a waste of money. I bought this car as my old car died so needed a car for my family. Got the car in November and since then I have spent money on it. On a positive note the car drives well, comfy interior, cheap tax and fuel and a tidy looking car and it went through the MOT but the main problem is the engine. I am loosing coolant from somewhere, not sure if its the head gasket as I am not seeing tell tale signs like white smoke, overheating, mayonnaise on the oil cap just loosing water from somewhere, also I have cleaned the EGR valve a few times too. I am disappointed with the car and will be changing it later this year and wont buy another Renault at all.
Superb car, massive boot, seats 5 adults, reliable.

Absolutely loved this car from day one. It's been reliable, cheap to run (although road tax is expensive) and is mega comfy to drive or be a passenger in. Lots of glass all round so great visibility and safe too with 4 star NCAP rating. I genuinely loved the car.
I then bought a new shape scenic (2003 onwards) and what a hunk of junk! Window regulators fail, dash binacles fail, key cards fail, electric handbrake issues, door pockets filled with water..... Absolute piles of rubbish. Old shape scenic (1996-2003) much better and infinitely the best MPV made in terms of value for money.
RENAULT MEGANE SCENIC 1.9 dTi 80 Authentique 5dr (Review date: 14th May '13)
We had a 52 reg scenic for 7 happy years with no issues and very low running costs.
We were so happy with it than when our family grew we bought a... Grand scenic, the bigger brother version!
No complaints really, apart from petrol, oil, tyres, etc. it just runs with no problems and have never left us stranded!
There is plenty of room for 3 car sits, the boot has at times contained 2 push chairs and our holiday luggage without even having to remove the parcel shelf and when we remove the back sits it creates a van that is great for trips to the damp or for trips back form IKEA.
The diesel version has great fuel economy, giving us at least 450 to 500 miles per tank so that on my wife's day to day school and supermarket plus lots of Saturday clubs and after school clubs we would go for a whole months without visiting the petrol station!
This was our second Renault and we weren't disappointed.
Great car...except the gearbox
RENAULT MEGANE SCENIC 2.0 16V Privilege Monaco 5dr Auto (Review date: 17th December '12)
To start, I must say that when it works, the gearbox is silky smooth and responsive. No squeaks or rattles and all put together very nicely. The only quarrel is that the gearbox jumps into limp mode whenever the car is starting from cold.
Despite this the drive is excellent, engine is lovely and responsive, driving position is much better than the Xsara. Highly practical and lots of storage spaces even where you least expect them to be. Above average sound system with nice controls behind the wheel.
Buy the manual and you'll be well away.

1.6L Alise 5dr, pros; good size family car with plenty of room for both driver and passengers. Driving position good, seated slightly higher than your average car.Practical too with a good size boot with rear seats up,when down the rear space is vast.Rear seats can also be taken out. Plenty of under floor cubbyholes to put things in. Running costs fairly average for size of engine/car. Cons; interior of car although practcal is very cheap looking hard plastic. My car has developed a lot of rattles over the years. It also seems to eat brake pads for breakfast with new ones being fitted for every M.O.T which is not good as i do less than 8000 miles a year. Reliability is good I use it every day 6 days a week.
