Sounds perfect but....

PEUGEOT PARTNER COMBI 1.6 HDi Escapade 5dr (Review date: 19th January '12)

I

I love my Peugot Partner but a few improvements would make such a difference

Here are the whinges.

The metal is so thin that if an average man leans on the roof he leaves a dent!

I'm a woman and there is no mirror on the driver's side sun visor.

I had a Vauxhall before and like to know the outside temperature which I would have thought could be fitted as standard nowadays as it is on the cheapest Vauxhalls.

Dashboard and general trim are very basic.

Rear tailgate weighs a ton, I think a small woman would struggle to close it, I'm not, but I tend to put the shopping on the back seat rather than fight with the tailgate. Also... worrying, I don't know if it's just a fault with mine, when I open it with the central locking and just open the tailgate it intermittently locks itself again, I have a horror of putting my keys down inside and the car locking itself just as I close the tailgate!

The positives - I love the fold back parcel shelf - so practical. The car holds so much being undeniably box shaped. With the turbo it soars up hills and does over 50 to the gallon (53 on average) I do like the slide back rear doors. An incredibly practical and economical car that I find a pleasure to drive.

P.S. My 23 year old daughter borrowed it when her Volkswagen was in the garage and dreaded being seen it it, she did however absolutely love driving it and now happily borrows it any time unfortunately!

Basic, low cost, no frills, family transport

PEUGEOT PARTNER COMBI 1.4 5dr (Review date: 18th September '11)

This is a van with windows, so you wont get any admiring glances, you wont impress your neighbours, and if you have kids over the age of about 13, they wont want to be dropped off at school in it!. But if you need lots of space, coupled with a small footprint and low costs, a partner (or its cousin, the citroen berlingo) may just be perfect!. It takes up the same amount of road space as a ford focus, but has a huge interior and a boot which, for volume, is hard to beat. When we got ours, we had toddler, and could put the pushchair in the boot without needing to fold it down, which my wife found a godsend!. If you have young kids, you will appreciate the sliding rear doors (no embarrassing car park 'incidents' caused by childrens enthusiasm to get out!), and the tailgate, which can cause problems in certain parking situations due to its size, comes into its own as an impromptu shelter if it starts raining on a day out!. We had a 1.4 petrol, which may seem like it might struggle, but was ok, no it wasnt quick, but was geared so it rarely felt underpowered. The downside being on longer runs, when it felt like it could use another gear. The interior quality was pretty poor, not because it felt poorly made, but the plastics were hard, shiny, and sometimes brittle to touch. The upholstery didnt seem too bad, but the carpets were quite thin and nasty (rubber flooring surely would have suited the partner better?!), but hey, it was a cheap car when new, what do you expect?, a golf it aint!. The front seats are ok for shorter journeys of up to an hour, but longer runs would likely cause discomfort, the backrest particularly was rather lacking in support (and is why i gave it 3\5 for driving). I wasn't often in the back, but found the rear seats more comfortable than the front!. So to sum up; as basic family transport, it is fine. Which version to go for would depend on what kind of use, if your journeys are mainly short, dont shy away from the 1.4 petrol, its ok. But if you plan to tow with it, or regularly load it up, a diesel would be a better choice. However, either option may cause problems due to the front seats, which i feel are the biggest failing of the car, and stops it being as usable as it should.

Peugeot Partner 2.0 HDi

I needed a car that had loads of room as my family love going on big camping trips, tents, bikes, surf boards etc but also a car that gave me great miles to the gallon and after months of looking around the Peugeot Partner 2.0 HDi was the answer. I've had mine nearly 3 years and I can honestly say I've never had any problems, the sliding back doors are a revelation for getting in and out especially if your using child seats. The rear seats split and fold up against the front seats giving you van like space. The HDi engine gives the car real poke and it will happily cruise the motorways all day long and as a bonus you can push 55+ mpg on a run, I use mine daily to travel to work and as a Dad's taxi evening and weekends and I get a good mpg round town. You sit slightly higher than a standard car which I found really helpful and there is good all round visibility.

Very practical and comfortable. A little bit slow, which is fine for my driving style, buy the 2 litre HDi if you need to get to 60 in under 15 seconds. The interior is fantastic with lots of storage spaces and a huge boot. Fold the seats down and you have a van, turn the roof bars sideways and you have a roofrack.

I was so impressed I just bought a 2 litre version - they're more economical too apparently, although I can't say I've noticed any difference.

50mpg is no problem, insurance is cheap (group 11), and they are well built.

The best car for changing demands

PEUGEOT PARTNER COMBI 1.6 HDi Escapade 5dr (Review date: 27th March '11)

This little car is so versatile and be changed from a 5 seat passenger vehicle to a van shape within a couple of minutes and the press of 1 or 2 buttons. It has more space inside than you might think and was described by a friend of mine as "a little car that thinks it's a big car" as he loaded camping gear and climbing gear for a group of people into it. It can even be a mixture of van and car as the rear seats can be put up or down independently of each other to allow for 1 or 2 passengers plus dog crate or bike or other gear.

I particularly like the hatch back as it makes a great shelter from the rain when changing shoes/boots or having a cuppa.

The car sits a little higher off the road than other cars, which is great for disabled or elderly people as it makes it easier to get in and out.

I would definately buy another one and am really hoping the manufacturers will produce them as automatics as well as manuals.

Hi,

When I decide after a few test drives to buy this car bearing in mind I was used to driving salon cars it has proved to be the best purchase of a car I have ever made and over the years I have had all sorts. The car is very practical and versatile being used to transport materials and on other occasions my grandchildren and pets. The running costs are very favourable and repairs have been minimal compared to any other car I have had, it is very easy to get in and out of and the driving position is comfortable over long periods. The storage capabilities in and around the drivers area and for passengers is more than adaquite and visiblity from all angles is not impeded. I will certainly purchase another should this one pack in after tempting fate writing this review.

o.k so it might be a little basic looking inside but it does what it should and does it very well. Loads of space inside twin slidding doors come in very handy for the kids in car parks. 1.6HDI i think is the best engine with lots of power and allways has more than you need. Great fuel economy and very smooth power delivery. Sterio sounds great oven with all the space inside and you have space above the front seats bellow the front seats under the fllo in the middle and above and bellow in the boot so lots of places to put things.
