120000 mile 206 1.4 petrol still going strong!

PEUGEOT 206 1.4 LX 5dr [AC] (Review date: 24th February '13)

3.5

My 206 is 02 reg and covered 120000 miles but still going strong and is reliable, having said that the interior creaks and rattles and the gearchange is sloppy and the gearbox wines but for a small french car its good and covers 46 mpg but I have it serviced and repaired regardless of cost and do not thrash it!

3.5

Very reliable and cheap to run. Tax was £30 p/a and returned 55Mpg. Had to take it to the garage every 2 months for some reason.

Did 30k miles in 3 years and replaced with a golf 1.9 tdi

Great car at low cost

PEUGEOT 206 1.4 HDi SE 3dr [DAC+CC] (Review date: 6th December '12)

Had my 206 now for 6 years and in that time I've added 140k miles to the clock. Never had any breakdowns, MOT has never cost more than £300.

Great first car, and cheap if you do a lot of miles.

Not the most comfortable car for long journeys, but a small price to pay.

One of the best I've owned

PEUGEOT 206 2.0 HDi 90 LX 3dr [AC] (Review date: 3rd December '12)

4.5

I didn’t want this car but ended up with the car by default after damaging it on the test run... Every cloud has a silver lining apparently, and this is mine. As of today my 206HDI has 211,000 on the clock and has taken me the 100 mile round trip to work and back every day for the last three years without a hiccup. All I've had to do is service it (AT THE CORRECT INTERVALS!), change tyres, renew drop links (quite a few times admittedly) and put in fuel. I also had to change the rear beam bearings at £160. Other than that - nothing. Starts first time every time, is comfortable, reliable, returns 55+mpg on motorways and is surprisingly quick for a 90bhp run around. I don't think they look terribly great and are as common as muck but I would bet money that half the bad review on this page has come from people who have bought uncared for cars. I have a full service history and drive reasonably carefully therefore don’t get much trouble. This is possibly one of the best cars I've ever owned.

Good until they go wrong

PEUGEOT 206 1.6 GLX 5dr [AC] (Review date: 25th September '12)

After recieving my car as a gift from my uncle to help me get to and from work when i started my apprenticeship. The problems started after 6months. The car would go through brake pads every 6000 miles. When taking it to a few different garages the problem persisted and being a 29 year old male i didnt drive her fast and didnt brake excessivley. The clutch went at 70k and was expensive to replace as it took the cable aswell.

Towards the end the suspension was knocking after replacing both shocks and it had so many drop links i lost count. The gearbox whines and the engine had the head done once at 40k and again at 80k. The exhaust would fall off at the manifold. Overall for a great looking car its engineered parts were typical for a car that is french. Watch out for dodgey water pumps too as that was what blew the head after it over heated again without warning.

As for the good points. It was cheap on petrol. Cheap to insure and an ideal first car. Good to look at and nice to drive and park in tight spots. I did like her but in the end everything just failed and as with any car that is french the parts are expensive. :(

absolute garbage

PEUGEOT 206 1.1 Style 5dr (Review date: 13th September '12)

I bought this car for a reasonable price locally, and from the day i bought it i had nothing but issues one after another week after week, the overall repair costs of the car equaled more than what i payed for the car itself, first the exhaust went with a golfball sized hole, then the car would stop and start while driving, so i had to buy a new coil pack even though one had been fitted 7 months prior, then the clutch cable snapped, so i had a new one fitted, less than 24 hours later the clutch itself went taking the less than 24hour old cable with it, after i fixed that my rear breaks went with a BANG, 3 days before i was driving it to the seaside, 3 weeks later the starter motor completely seized up so i had to buy a new one, 2 weeks after that my front right wheel started screaming and grinding, that was the absolute final straw, i sold it for LESS than half the repair bills within a 5 month period!! the 1.1 engine was dreadful, it strugled to reach 60mph, and the tork didn't exist at all, you could jog faster!! treat this car like you would the plague....give it a 3 mile radius and keep on looking, its not worth 50p let alone £1500. it has completey put me off french cars in general, thanks alot pug!!

I drove this car for 4 years. It was a great car.

Good points - looked great, reliable, cheap to run.

Bad points - cut out a few times for no reason - always when coming off motorway from high speed to a stop - it just died.

Air con can be expensive to fix.

Otherwise a great car.

A bargain hothatch, if you can afford the insurance.

PEUGEOT 206 2.0 GTi 180 3dr [DAC+CC] (Review date: 16th July '12)

3.5

I cannot believe how cheap these cars are nowadays - nice clean, relatively low mileage cars for less than 3 grand. When I bought my 05 plate Black GTI 180 from a Peugeot dealer a good few years back it cost me about 10 grand.

At the time it was my first decent car, gratuating from a 1.4L Polo. I only kept the Peugeot 6 months or so before I traded it for a civic Type R but I always have fond memories of the Pug.

Best bits - Suprisingly rapid acceleration - pound for pound it more than holds its own against most of what you will meet on the roads. Also, looks very nice, with the twin pipe exhaust and the chunky alloys. The interior is also nice looking, even compared to many of today's more modern cars.

Bad bits - some may say the handling is not great compared to many hot hatches such as the Clio 182 but I can't say it bothered me. Fuel is costly if you have a heavy right foot, and it's hard not to. Insurance is costly, something like group 17 if I remember correctly which seems pretty harsh, but as I say, the car can fly at a fair rate of knots.

Overall - Not a trendy car to have, and not a huge number of decent examples on the market today. But if you can find a decent one and afford the running costs, there's not much to dislike. I'd have another one, that's for sure.

Good depending on the driver

PEUGEOT 206 1.9 D LX 3dr [AC] (Review date: 10th June '12)

I bought this at 65000 miles and 10 years old. A week later is needed £1200 repairs and had a recurring stalling problem until my mechanic finally figured out what was wrong (after many attempts). Other than that, only small things have gone wrong (new exhaust pipe, battery and the usual tyres etc.)

I'm going to guess the previous owned abused this car because she's been a beaut since i've taken care of her.

Great MPG lowest 45 highest 60 (its a slow diesel after all). Tax is okay, but the repairs mean it wasn't too cheap to run. Its small on the inside and being 6ft i don't fit in well, and my friends find it hard to get in the back. Having said that, i've still had 5 people in the car many times without problems. Comfortable and stylish on the inside.

The car drives beautifully however, very easy. Sometimes lacks acceleration and torque but i knew this would be the case when i bought it so can't complain.

Tl;dr

In summary: Breaks down sometimes, but cheap to run other than that. Slow and lacks torque, but handles very well even in ice. Comfortable and stylish for getting from A to B if you don't take much.
