hello i have my mini for about one year already ... and you love and hate it ...

I had before 7 different cars and i never had so many problems with them.

Practicality: of course its small hatch but if the shopping doesnt fit in the back its just ridiculus.

Reliability: loads of electric problems ( break sensor going off all the time, I just cut them off, wheel speed sensor going off every now and again causing the dashboard looking like a christas tree, bushings are very poor quality even the new once are not so good, will recomend to put the Powerflex on, exhaust -right silencer is ratteling, only god knows for what silly reason they have welded together two silencers , if you want to replace one you have to replace everything, bad quality brackets holding the silencers they just rust and drop off.

Running cost : tax if Im right its just over 240 pounds a year... for a hatchback :(, small tank and high consumpion will give you about 15mpg to 25mpg in the city but of course it all depends on your driving style, averaging on the motorway from one tank I can get about 340 miles, insurance with over 10 yrs NCB discout I still have to pay about 800pounds a year for ful comp,

how does it drives: it drives superb, the supercharger gives the kick from the begining, firm steering , stiff susspension gives you very good cornering performance .. brilliant for the track day but not so good for the city.

summary: you love it for the fun of driving, hate it because it needs a lot of attention ... great car for a young lad who look for some entertainment. ( repairing, upgrading, tunning) if I would go for another mini, I would choose ONE or COOPER full loaded ( less hassel)

Amazing car

MINI HATCH COOPER S 1.6 Cooper S 3dr (Review date: 8th July '12)

I owned one of the last Cooper S's on 2006, in Hypa Blue, with all the bells and whistles, including the Recaro seats.

It's the best car I've ever owned. It put a smile on my face every time I drove it. It also stood out in a crowd too, received some good comments from the public too.

We have a son and found the car no problems with shopping, pushchair, going away on holiday's, just buy a roof rack if you run out of room!

Reliability wise it was pretty good, it did have to go back into Mini for a new flywheel and master cylinder, the former under warranty. It was sorted with no issues at all. Servicing wise, use Mini, they are so reasonable and the level of service is excellent.

They do like a drink if you have a heavy right foot, but the sound of the supercharger and that exhaust popping all the time, it's well worth visiting the petrol stations more often!!! On a long run, driving sensibly, the computer said 40 mpg, which I was really pleased with.

The run flat tyres probably my only critisism, if you can change them to normal tyres, the ride is a lot better all round really. I paid around £150 per tyre, not many manufacturers sell them either. So shop around if you can, you may make a small saving.

Insurance costs were fine, tax no problems, I thought it was quite reasonable.

The interior was excellent. All laid out really well, comfy Recaro's in the front and back and overall good visability.

Overall, if you want some fun in a reliable car that will hold it's value better than others, looks fantastic and it's made by BMW, buy one, you won't regret it.

Nearly 10 years old and still feels like new!

Wow, what an amazing car! Me, my husband and my 2 boys love it! We've had it from new and it will be 10 years old in September 2012. It has 2 baby seats in the back and there are now loads of prams that fit in the boot - our favourite is the Petit Star.

You put your foot down and it really goes.

It's so reliable and has never let us down - the run flat tyres are a great asset.

Great value for money.

Simply very bad on fuel, expensive to run. I have a 2003 cooper S

MINI HATCH COOPER S 1.6 Cooper S 3dr (Review date: 12th April '12)

2.5

Mini Cooper S 2003, 63,000 miles, bought November 2011 for £4500.

Cons

- Tax is £143 for 6 months.

-fuel consumption is ridiculous, trip computer is wrong, it is out by about 20 percent. Says I am doing 35 mpg (at best), I work out how many miles I do on £20 of fuel and it's no more than 90.

In other words not even 30 mpg. I do drive sensibly and I do some town driving, but mainly A roads and dual carriageways.

Mechanically I have had issues (whether I have been unlucky or not I do not know)

-New engine needed at 66,000 miles which cost £1400 (I sourced an engine and got it fitted by a friend. Most garage's were quoting £2200.

-In the time of owning the vehicle (Nov 2011 til now) and 10,000 miles of driving... I have had 2 new wheel bearings, new front brake pads and an anti drop link.

-Run flat tyres are VERY expensive.

I have done 10,000 miles in my Cooper S and I have come now to the point of selling it. I cannot even get £3500!!!

I would advise thinking very carefully before buying a cooper S.

Better option is buying a Civic type-R, Corsa VXR or even a clio sport.

Thanks for reading

this car is reliable very fast fun to drive great for short runs, or trips down country. not so good on long runs as it isnt the most comfortable. not cheap to run but ok if you treat it gently.likes a good thrashing now and again, and handles very well as long as you keep on top of the tyre pressures and watch the tempreture gauge.altogether almost the best car i have had.

My little dream

MINI HATCH COOPER S 1.6 Cooper S 3dr (Review date: 31st October '11)

4.5

First and foremost I absolutely LOVE this car! My advice to people looking would be to test drive a few, i tested mini one's and coopers (both wicked rides) and Cooper S's, with variables like soft tops, sun roofs and plain, they are all great but all individual so do try them out. Before buying this one I had driven a Cooper S that was stiff and uncomfortable, but as soon as I got into this one I knew it was right.

I can guarantee you wont look back on buying a mini, she is the best fun I've ever driven! They are simple on the inside, but flawless a la BMW tailoring, the S models can feel a little rough and ready at first but trust me, after a week you will love it and love feeling the road. Other cars are boring in comparison. The size is great for inner city but you don't feel incapable or vulnerable as you can with smaller cars, they are little beasts, and boy does she move! Warning, the raleigh racer in you will emerge!!

They are no estate so yes the boot is compact, but I can fit a good weekly food shop, a few clothing bags, a travel bag/ small suitcase, shoes AND my dogs bed in there, so you wont hear me complaining.

The cooper S is a sports car, she handles like a dream and is fast, unbelievably fast actually, and so so much fun, but yeah, she likes her petrol more then the one or standard cooper models, both of which are also great rides, but if you can afford a bit of extra petrol funds its worth it for the extra kick a sport gives. Insurance and london resident parking permit costs are also higher, it's just good to be aware and take that in to consideration if you are concerned about running costs.

I am 5'11", and she doesn't feel small at all once inside, everyone says the same too, but i love the sunroof, its worth holding out for as it feels like it opens up the car, great on those country rides with sun dappling through the trees! You can buy an interior chrome pack for about 65 quid, so don't get too caught up on that detail, stripes and details are also easy to add and remove.

Once you find your mini, you wont look back, such fun cars, they seem to hold their value and don't go through many owners, as you'll soon realise, owners don't want to give them up!!

JCW Mini - Not cheap to run but oh so exciting to drive!

MINI HATCH COOPER S 1.6 Cooper S 3dr (Review date: 31st October '11)

3.5

I love my Cooper Works Mini. It is exciting to drive. I use it for longer work trips and weekend days out when my husband rides his GXR and I follow. It can be juicy to run but I have managed to get 36 MPG on a good run but only 23 on a bad one. You have to keep an eye on tyre pressure and tread as it is prone to being drawn into cambers in the road when either are not 100%. It is a powerful little car with 200 break under the bonnet and with a 0-60 of around 6.4 seconds it will leave you with a smile from ear to ear. It's not a cheap car to run but it is my bit of fun and the pleasure it give me far outweighs the costs. I have never had any problems with it and it is now almost 10 years old. I managed to get tyres for £155 from National at the weekend and this has made a massive difference to stability even at the lower speeds. The steering is quite heavy for such a small car but you do get used to it. I don't have young children so the issue of the rear seat space is not a problem for me and my weekly shop is squeezed into the boot and the front passenger seat therefore the car suits my needs in that respect. I am not sure what car I will get next purely because it would have to have similar performance levels...perhaps a little Exige (tried it and liked it a lot). Anyway if you're thinking about buying one remember it is not cheap to run but it is great fun.

Mini cooper review

MINI HATCH COOPER S 1.6 Cooper S 3dr (Review date: 30th October '11)

2.5

I bought this car as a mid life cisis. It was gorgeous and I loved it...however, practically with children it was not appropriate at all, too small a boot for luggage and shopping and most of all the runnng costs out weighed the pose value. The insurance and tax was unbelievable and it guzzled petrol. Was surprised to say glad when I sold it!!!

My 02 Mini Cooper S with one previous owner and 49000 miles

MINI HATCH COOPER S 1.6 Cooper S 3dr (Review date: 30th October '11)

3.3

Not too big but about the right size for a couple. For shopping and taking out grandchildren out it's spot on.

After a short run up the motorway the windscreen side panel actually fell off and was of course none retreiveable. The top front corner of the roof trim fell off on another occassion - fortunately not on the motorway.

When driving back along the motorway from Scotland the power steering decided to stop working - after turning off the engin and locking the steering lock, then unlocking it again turned the engine on and all had corrected itself. It has a slow oil leak.

The running costs for the performance is shocking.

The steering wheel is too big, rev counter & speedo is exactly where you need them.

Cornering is not great, when driving very hard the traction control comes on when on a straight . Too much body roll.

My other car is a Lotus Elise which I now appriciate even more! No comparison and body parts don't fall off.
