An Unexpected Pleasure....

LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 4.0 SE 4dr Auto (Review date: 19th January '12)

What have I done...a P38 Rangey! One look at the various owners forums will fill your heart with gloom. Overheating engines, collapsing suspensions, strange oily smells, hand built by brummies.

I could go on.

Well mine has been great. Starts every time, loads of room for people and their gear. It pulls 3 tons of horse & trailer and all the horsey gear without turning a hair. Did I mention the brilliant aircon and heated seats? Or the slit level rear hatch which you and a friend can sit on with legs dangling to survey the view when parked at the racecourse? You will love the classic high level Range Rover driving position and the excellent visibility. Let's not mention the tragic petrol consumption of the 4 litre V8 nor the stately handling (best to avoid sudden steering inputs). It's used most days for short trips to do useful things and was cheap as chips. I love it.

My rangie P38

LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 2.5 DSE 4dr (Review date: 16th January '12)

4.5

Ive owned my p38 for just over a year now and after hearing a few horror stories on how expensive range rovers are to run and to maintain if they go wrong, i decided to buy one. Lets get the negatives out the way and the only one really is fuel costs. As you would expect the MPG isnt great and long drives have to be considered rather than be spontanious!! Other than that, these are superb cars that i highly recommend. They are very comfortable and spacious for both driver and passengers. The handling is great despite being large vehicle and on my 2.5 diesel there was still plenty of oomph under the bonnet. My P38 never let me down and passed its Mot with flying colours. I own the DSE model which comes really well specced with leather interior and heated seats, electric mirrors, air suspension, auto gearbox and a fantastic soundsystem. If you want a champagne car for lemonade money and dont mind a couple more trips to the fuel garage then this is certainly one car to consider!!

Practical Luxury

LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 2.5 DSE 4dr Auto (Review date: 11th January '12)

I have owned my Range Rover 2.5 DSE Auto since 2005 having traded from the earlier 'classic ' model. I find these workhorses simply amazing in their practicality, and despite their age still they turn heads as a luxury cruiser. As this is only used as a second vehicle, to date it has only covered 78000 miles and drives like new. I have had a few items replaced such as a new air compressor, fuse box and more recently the main brake pipe fractured and had this replaced. Kickdown is great plus the added bonus of a sports auto box still leaves other modern vehicles behind at traffic lights. An excellent vehicle and highly recommended.

A proper workhorse for all conditions

LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 2.5 DT 4dr Auto (Review date: 22nd November '11)

3.5

I have owned my P38 Range Rover for just over a year, it has managed two family holidays, dispatched and collected children from university, supplied relief to neighbours trapped in last years snow and never missed a beat. It is a no nonsense car, looks smart and has had all the unreliable bits disconnected, so air suspension replaced with springs! Which gives a good ride, and is great when negotiating muddy or snow covered tracks. Just can't be lowered to get Granny onboard. If your looking for economic run around then this is not the car for you, it will return about 25-28 mpg. Fitted with a twin socket tow hook and benefits from four new Goodyear Wrangler tyres. I have had it serviced twice in the last year by a specialist mechanic which cost me £94 each time. The battery was replaced a year ago. If you want a good reliable go anywhere, carry anything workhorse to see you through the winter this is the perfect car.

1999 2.5 DHSE

LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 2.5 dHSE 4dr Auto (Review date: 12th October '11)

I bought this car from a main dealer, seven & a half years ago when it had 24k miles on the clock. It has now done 132k miles and it has been quite clearly the best car I have ever owned. I had a stage 2 tune from JE Engineering of Coventry, just after I bought it, as the diesel is sluggish. It was then as pokey as a petrol and more economical, giving me an average of 29mpg.

It has been very reliable, letting me down only once, recently, when a top radiator hose split.

It's not the cheapest car to run and over nearly 8 years things like, the radiator, suspension spheres, mid exhaust box, battery (2) and a few other things have been replaced. It also has been serviced every 6k miles on the dot and I think that is the secret to reliability.

A great car but don't buy one which is not supported by a full service history by main dealer or a specialist. This is not a car for the DIY'er.

I will buy another, probably a TDV8 but not yet. This one is good for a few years yet.

A COMFORTABLE SAFE FAMILY CAR THAT COVERS LONG JOURNEYS WITH EASE.

AS A WORK HORSE AROUND THE FARM

IN ALL WEATHERS IT HAS FEW COMPETITORS.

DUE TO ITS COMPLEX NATURE IT REQUIRES MAINTENANCE TO BE CARRIED OUT AS RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER, IT DOES NOT PAY TO NEGLECT THIS IMPORTANT FACET.

IT IS NOT A CHEAP CAR TO RUN, I.E. FUEL AND MAINTENANCE.

HOWEVER THIS IS COMPENSATED FOR BY ITS DURABILITY AND FAULTLESS PERFORMANCE FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE.

We have had this car for 8 years and as a mother I have liked the feeling of safety that driving a 4x4 gives, especially in the winter time, you just know that if the worst happens and you are involved in an accident you will be that bit better off.

Wonderful car that is practical, capable, luxurious, stylish and brilliant offroad. Used to commute across London or over the country lanes it does not matter, the Range always gets me where I want to go and I never tire of it.
