Footballer’s sky blue supercar
16 April 2009
We love the Audi R8 at Auto Trader but we’re not so sure about Manchester City star Stephen Ireland’s model.
The full-time footballer and part-time taste vacuum originally had parts of the grille, cooling vents and side panels decked out in red.
When he turned up for work in the R8 it reportedly made his team-mates angry – with red the colour of bitter rivals Manchester United.
So when Ireland returned to training later, the R8 had mysteriously transformed into the trademark sky blue of Manchester City.
Ireland appears to be a fan of the Vauxhall’s Corsa marketing campaign – he has a C’mons air refresher hanging from the rear-view mirror.
It might make sense to his team-mates but we’re baffled why the midfielder would do such a thing to an already stunning supercar.
But Ireland has form on this front. Last year he was photographed driving a black Range Rover with pinks wheels, pink grille and, you guessed it, pink leather seats.
And that’s not a million miles away from Paris Hilton’s Bentley Continental GT.
If he’s ever tempted to come out of international retirement and play for the Republic of Ireland again, tuner MTM has got a smashing green R8 he could try.
What's hanging on your rear-view mirror?
