Only Fools and Horsepower: Buy Del Boy’s car
27 July 2009
One of the yellow Reliant Regals used by Del Boy in legendary British sitcom Only Fools and Horses is for sale on Auto Trader.
This 1973 Reliant was one of six models used by Derek and Rodney Trotter (David Jason and Nicolas Lyndhurst) in the classic comedy which ran from 1981- 2003.
Still looking as manky as ever and with Trotters Independent Trading Co emblazoned on the side, this could be one of the coolest purchases you’ll ever make.
The Reliant Regal sits alongside Inspector Morse’s Jaguar, The Professional’s Capri, The A-Team van and Knight Rider’s K.I.T.T as one of the most iconic and unmistakeable cars from TV history.
How about performance figures for the 1973 three-wheeler? Well you won’t be storming to important meetings in one as it only has a 26bhp 600cc engine.
While a lot of cars come with parts such as a spare wheel, first aid kit, jack and toolkit you get the ultimate extras with the Del Boy-mobile:
• Sheep skin coat
• Flat cap
• Market keeper’s suitcase
• Genuine bottle of Peckham Spring water
As part of the deal you also get the rights to the hire business ‘Del Boy’s Van’.
We reckon there’s a few quid to be made out of this with no end of kids wanting to be dropped off at their school leavers’ party in the Only Fools and Horses three-wheeler.
And thanks to it lacking a fourth wheel you can drive it on a motorcycle license.
The Reliant is for sale with Sovereign cars in Hampshire with the dealer informing us that it gets more attention than any other model on the forecourt.
Larry from Sovereign cars told Auto Trader: "The previous owner tells us in good faith this Regal was one of the famous Trotter vans.
"Despite having more than £1 million of stock on our forecourt, it's the little Reliant which gets the most attention."
How much for this cushty motor then? £6,995 with a full MOT. For more info on the car and business opportunity call (01256) 895188 or view the advert here.
