It’s not often one of the world’s best cars owned by one of the world’s best drivers comes onto the market.

But Auto Trader has Jenson Button’s Bugatti Veyron for sale.

F1’s current leading man is the second owner of this 2008 all-black Veyron which has covered just 1,500 miles and is for sale with Steve Hurn's Specialist Cars.

And what a car it is. With an 8-litre W16 engine and four turbochargers, Button’s Veyron develops 1,001bhp and 922lb/ft of pulling power.

This accelerates the hypercar from 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 253mph – that’s 33mph faster than Jenson’s F1 car.

The Somerset-born star is leading this season’s F1 championship with 70 points after winning six of the first seven races for the newly-formed Brawn GP team.

It’s a fantastic return to form for Button who burst onto the scene in 2000 as a fresh-faced Brit taking Alessandro Zanardi’s place in the Williams team.

He was the youngest driver to score a point in F1 went he came sixth in the 2000 Brazilian Grand Prix as a 20 year-old. The youngest point scorer now is Sebastien Vettel – one of Button’s closest rivals this season.

If you think the last thing Button wants after a race is to jump back into a tarmac-shredding supercar, you’d be wrong.

At the moment he spends his time driving a Mercedes CLK DTM AMG, Ferrari Enzo, Audi RS6 Avant, BMW M5 and his current favourite, a Mercedes C63 AMG.

Those cars provide the out-and-out power while his Smart car, 1970s 600cc Honda and two VW campervans give him serious kudos in the retro cool stakes.

In the past Button has also owned a Ferrari F430 Spider, Ferrari 360, Ferrari 550 Maranello, Ford GT and Porsche Carrera GT – not a bad car history for a 29 year-old.

The Brawn GP star is currently having a break in St Tropez after completing the gruelling Olympic level Mazda London Triathlon, raising £17,000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation.

His next race for Brawn GP is the European Grand Prix in Valencia a week Sunday.

Jenson Button’s Bugatti is being sold through Suffolk dealership Steve Hurn Specialist Cars for £899,995.
