The long-awaited Lexus LFA supercar is go, with an eye watering £336,000 price tag.

This makes it £142k more expensive than the V12 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and almost £119k more than the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640.

When it reaches the UK it will cost almost a quarter of a million pounds more than the most expensive car Lexus currently sell – the LS 600h L stretched saloon.

Powered by a unique 4.8-litre V10 engine which revs to 9,000rpm, the LFA will scream from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 202mph.

A massive 65 per cent of the body is constructed from Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), adding to the cost of the car.

The rest of the body is wrought from aluminium alloy to keep weight as low as possible. The result is a supercar weighing 1,480kg – roughly the same as a Ford Focus.

Power is fed to the rear wheels by a specially designed six-speed sequential gearbox which shifts gears in 0.2 seconds.

Handling has been honed at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, where a race-prepared LFA has already competed in a gruelling 24hr endurance race.

The road car will use the same dampers and benefits from race-inspired 20-inch forged BBS alloy wheels.

Interior details centre around the driver and the cabin of all 500 LFAs will be hand built.

The dashboard features an LCD and TFT screen which turns red when the engine reaches its maximum rpm.

The completion of the LFA supercar marks a nine-year long project, which was first previewed to the public in concept form at the 2005 Detroit motor show.
