Polestar is a growing force in the electric car world, and whilst it hasn’t been around as long as big names such as Tesla, its products are scoring highly with owners, as evidenced by the number of prizes the brand scooped up in Auto Trader’s New Car Awards 2022.
Riding this wave of excitement Rory was recently lucky enough to get up close and personal with its latest concept, the O2. A slinky, all-electric sports car Rory was so blown away he said Polestar simply had to build it. Someone was clearly listening because it’s doing exactly that, the car renamed as the Polestar 6 and due on sale in 2026.

The Polestar 6 remains pretty faithful to the O2 and the brand’s previous Precept concept, reflected in the fact 500 numbered units of a special ‘LA Concept’ edition are planned to be produced. Per the original Polestar O2 concept, a sky blue exterior, light leather interior and 21-inch wheels will be produced in the ‘Polestar 6 LA Concept edition’ as a tribute to the original design study.
As previously reported, the O2 concept embodied strong commitments to design, technology, and sustainability, which Polestar hopes will place it at the forefront of the traditional sports car sector, albeit with an electrified twist. According to Polestar, the Polestar 6 will share the same high-performance, 800-Volt electric architecture already confirmed for the Polestar 5 and will be built on Polestar’s bespoke bonded aluminium platform. The hard-top convertible roadster prioritises powerful performance thanks to an astonishing 884 horsepower output, with a targeted 0-62mph sprint time of 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 155mph.

Put simply, the Polestar 6 is a re-imagination of the traditional sports car for the electric era. The two-seat, fully electric roadster epitomises the brand’s focus on “communicating technology through design”, whilst making sustainability a cornerstone of its mission. Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath previously stated “my ambition is to make it a production car,” and it seems he’s ready to deliver on that promise.

Polestar 6 mono-material interior

One of Polestar’s missions is to prove “that a car interior based on single material components can pair style with sustainability”, and the 6 does just that. The so-called mono-material interior is minimalist but stylish and opens the doorway to a more cyclical life-cycle for car components.
Typically, vehicle interiors use an array of materials and these combinations are difficult to separate at the recycling stage, which is both inefficient and ineffective. When it revealed the concept Polestar said that, by contrast, “All of the soft components are made from one base material: highly recyclable thermoplastic. Therefore, the foam, the adhesive, the 3D knit upholstery and the non-woven lamination can all be recycled without energy-intensive separation or loss of attributes.” Learn more about sustainability and electric cars here.
