Seres is the latest manufacturer to join the growing list of new electric car brands. The company was founded in California and manufacturers its electric vehicles in China. The first car to launch in the UK is the Seres 3, which arrives later this spring. A compact SUV, the Seres 3 will have a starting price of just £29,995, making it cheaper than the entry-level MG ZS. By offering value for money, Seres will be hoping it is enough to attract buyers in such a crowded marketplace.
• A mid-size electric SUV, the 3 is the first car to arrive in the UK from Seres. • Promising premium materials and the latest tech, the entry-level Seres 3 undercuts its rivals on price. • The Seres 3 has a combined range of up to 205 miles.

Design and models available
The Seres 3 will be offered with 18-inch wheels and front and rear LED lights. The exterior design looks very much as you would expect for a compact crossover, bearing a large resemblance to rivals such as the BYD Atto 3 and MG ZS.
Interior and tech
Inside it looks like Seres has taken a more traditional approach than its closest competitor, BYD. The Seres 3 has a 10.25 inch touchscreen with what appear to be physical buttons below. Seres is aiming for a premium interior adding faux leather to the dashboard and upholstery. There are two levels of trim with parking aids fitted as standard on both. The entry-level Active trim will be equipped with keyless start and a reversing camera, while the range-topping Spirit models will gain a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging and heated front seats.
Batteries/range
The Seres 3 will be powered by a 54kWh battery giving a range of around 200 miles which can be topped up from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes on an ultra-rapid charger. However, when it comes to performance the Seres 3 won’t be breaking any land speed records with a 0-62 mph time of nine seconds.
Price and release
With a starting price of £29,995 for the entry level Active trim, the range-topping Spirit trim will set you back £31,995.
What other cars from Seres are due this year?
IA Electric Vehicles is the UK company importing the Seres 3 and later in the year it will also be bringing us a bigger SUV, the BE11 from another new brand, Skywell.
What other cars that are upcoming will this compete with?
The Seres 3’s closest competitors will be the MG ZS and BYD Atto 3 which are also manufactured in China. Additionally there’s the new Fiat 600e which currently, due to Fiat’s “e-Grant” finance deal, has a similar starting price.
