Electrification is now a way of life for Honda. After much anticipation, Honda has revealed their European specification for the Civic e:HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle). Whilst the US-market version is a saloon, UK buyers can expect a new hatchback model when it goes on sale this Autumn.
Honda has long promised to electrify their entire fleet by the end of 2022, and the launch of the hybrid Civic means Honda’s European line-up is now fully electrified, joining the likes of the Hybrid CR-V, HR-V and Jazz. Watch our video where Rory tests out the brand-new European specification of the 2022 Honda Civic hybrid now.

Civic hybrid design

Cleaner and simpler than its predecessor, the new Civic Hybrid has been redesigned for a more universally palatable appeal, donning a larger lower grille and a singular upper grille with a honeycomb structure through the centre.
The top Advance model comes with adaptive matrix LED light which means that it can cast a full bright beam on the road ahead without dazzling other road users, whilst lower models come with ordinary LEDs. Honda has blessed their new hybrid Civic hatchback with a sporty silhouette by lowering the bonnet by 35 millimetres and pushing the a-pillar back ever so slightly to make it look more dynamic and purposeful.

2022 Honda Civic performance

There are three new electric Civic trim models to choose from: Elegance, Sport and Advance, each offering a higher level of performance and technology. The 2022 Civic’s powertrain will replace its predecessor with a newly created 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle engine, utilising a 72-cell lithium-ion battery and dual electric motor system and engine. This allows the powertrain to put out 181bhp and 315Nm of torque, whilst keeping CO2 emissions under 110g/km.
The e:HEV technology in the new hybrid civic allows for three driving modes, too: - Normal: for a comfortable and smooth drive - Econ: uses less fuel when the combustion engine is in operation - Sport: for a more engaging and fun driving experience.

Hybrid Civic technology

The range-topping Advance model gets you a 10.2inch driver’s display LCD panel and a BOSE 12 speaker sound system, whilst keeping you safe with the advanced safety feature “SENSING”. This includes a 100-degree wide front camera, lane keep assist, low-speed braking control and blind spot information.

New Honda Civic e:HEV price

Although no price has been set for the UK (at the point of writing), the new hybrid Civic will be competing with other electrified hatchbacks and can be expected to cost approximately around the same as the recently updated mild-hybrid Ford Focus, which retails at around £29,000.
