The Saab 9-3 is the mainstay of the Swedish manufacturer’s range, selling in large numbers to those who respect its understated qualities. Renowned for its durability and practicality, the Saab brand has a strong following, but competition is as strong as it gets, with impressive rivals from BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes and now the new Ford Mondeo.

Saab 9-5 BioPower car review
The current generation of Saab 9-5s has been plodding around for years longer than its rivals and the range is badly in need of some new blood. But that doesn’t it isn’t compelling. This bioethanol-ready model is a fine example. It can run on regular unleaded or bioethanol E85, which comes from renewable agricultural sources. Does the latest 9-5 have anything going for it besides its green credentials?

Saab GB goes into administration
Saab Great Britain has gone into administration following its parent company’s continued difficulties. Vehicle production in Sweden has been on hold since April, while further funding has been sought, but not found.

Free servicing for used Saabs
Saab is offering two years’ free servicing on used cars bought through its Approved Used scheme. The free servicing plan, worth up to £700, is available on all used Saabs up to five years old or up to 60,000 miles bought between July 11 and September 30, 2011.
