• Warmed-through hatches to debut at Geneva
• 201bhp from a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine
• On sale from the middle of this year

Kia have announced souped-up versions of the cee’d and pro_cee’d small family hatches. Dubbed ‘GT’ by Kia, the new cars will make their debuts at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

To distinguish the GT versions from their more humble brethren, the hot Kias benefit from a deeper front air dam with red detailing and LED daytime running lights. They will also get side skirts, 18-inch alloys, red brake callipers and a subtle roof spoiler. Inside, they are equipped with Recaro sports seats with red stitching and red GT emblems.

Under the bonnet, both cars will be powered by a 201bhp turbocharged 1.6-litre four cylinder petrol engine which will produce 195lb/ft of torque and will power the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. This will be enough to launch the car to 62mph from rest in 7.9 seconds.

There is no word on pricing as yet but we expect the pro_cee’d GT to go on sale in the UK in the middle of the year, followed by the Cee’d GT later on in the year. The three-door pro_cee’d will go up against the Volkswagen Scirrocco, Vauxhall Astra GTC and the Renault Megane Coupe.
