Kia ceed GT• GT versions for Cee’d and Pro Cee’d
• First-ever Kia hot hatchback’s
• 201bhp and 0-62mph in sub-8 seconds

Details have been confirmed for the five-door Kia Cee’d GT and three-door Kia Pro Cee’d GT hot hatchback models – the first breathed on family models it has ever produced.

Both cars will be fitted with a turbocharged 1.6-litre GDI petrol engine, equipped with reinforced internal components. With 201bhp and 195lb/ft of pulling power it has 51 per cent more power and 61 per cent more torque than the standard petrol model. Kia says it will hit 62mph from rest in 7.9 seconds.

While not as quick as the latest power-hungry hatchbacks – think 280bhp in the Vauxhall Astra VXR – the GT double-act will go head-to-head with models including the SEAT Leon FR 1.8 TSI, Vauxhall Astra GTC 1.6 Turbo and Volkswagen Scirocco.

Power is sent to the wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and the suspension has been adapted to improve handling. New grilles, lamp clusters, bumpers, 18-inch alloy wheels, red painted brake callipers and special paint jobs will distinguish the GT from standard Cee’d models, like the one we’re currently running as a long termer. The GT models will also get “jewel-like” four-point LED daytime running lights, mounted in the lower side grilles.

Bespoke materials in the cabin, alloy pedals and sports seats from world-renowned manufacturer Recaro, complete the cosmetic changes inside.

With production starting in May 2013, expect the GT models to appear in showrooms from next summer.
