• Third generation of Porsche’s entry-level roadster
• Faster, cleaner and more fuel efficient
• Priced from £37,589

The all new Porsche Boxster range will arrive in showrooms on May 5, starting at £37,589.

Longer, lighter, wider and with larger wheels and tyres, the new Boxster improves on the dynamic prowess of its forbears. Porsche is claiming a 7:58min lap time on the Nurburgring Nordschleife – the unofficial benchmark test for performance cars – an impressive 12 seconds faster than the outgoing model.

The Boxster is powered by a 2.7-litre flat-six engine, developing 265bhp. The more powerful Boxster S develops 315bhp from its 3.4-litre motor and costs £45,384.

When equipped with the optional Sports Chrono package, the Boxster will cover the 0-62mph sprint in 5.5 seconds, and the S in 4.7 seconds.

Despite the improvements in power and performance, the latest Boxster is the cleanest and most fuel efficient yet, thanks to direct fuel injection and other measures including stop and start. Official combined fuel consumption ranges from 35.3-36.7mpg dependent on model chosen, while CO2 emissions are at 180g/km and 188g/km.

Both models come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, with Porsche’s seven-speed twin-clutch PDK automatic available as an option.

While clearly an evolution of the Boxster lineage, the exterior is more sharply styed to distance it somewhat from its forbear. Shorter overhangs both front and rear give a purposeful stance, and the car echoes styling details from Porsche’s top-tier sports cars such as the Carrera GT and forthcoming 918 spyder.

The interior also gets Carrera GT inspired design details, including a minimalist centre console.

Standard equipment on the Boxster includes Alcantara interior trim, 18-inch alloy wheels, stop and start, remote control hood operation, CD stereo with 7-inch touch-screen control and MP3 connectivity.

The Boxster S adds 19-inch alloys, partial leather upholstery and Bi-Xenon headlights.

Customers can also take advantage of complimentary tuition at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone, to learn how to get the best from their new car.
