More than 80,000 buyers have crushed their car for a new model since the scrappage scheme began on May 18.

We reveal the big winners from the scheme so far.

10. Renault
Sold: 3,780
Star car: Clio – 2,150 sold

The Renault Clio is a spacious and popular supermini with a five-star EuroNCAP safety rating. Prices start from £9,995.

9. Peugeot
Sold:

Star car: 107 – 1,798 sold

The 107 is available only with a 68bhp 1-litre petrol engine, which makes the car nippy enough for urban driving.

It’s in the lowest insurance band – group 1, and can reach a combined 62.7mpg. Prices start from £7,945.

An entry-level Toyota Yaris is an attractive supermini and the sporty touches added to the SR model make it look even better. Prices start from £9,305.

The Micra is a good small car boasting high levels of practicality and equipment. While it’s a cute-looking supermini, it is quite high (1.55-metres) – offering plenty of space for taller occupants.  Prices start from £7,995.

5. Volkswagen

Star car: Polo – 1,957 sold

The Polo supermini is Volkswagen’s most popular car sold under the scrappage scheme, with the Golf close behind at 1,889 sales. Prices for the VW Polo start from £8,345.

3. Fiat

The Panda is deemed good enough to be the everyday vehicle of Top Gear’s James May. It’s a city motor with a spacious interior. Prices start from £7,095.

Star car: Fiesta – 5,104 sold

Ford’s latest incarnation of the Fiesta is the UK’s best selling new car this year, with 48,182 sold between January and May. Prices start from £9,995.

A spokesperson for Ford said there is a slight delay in the dealers’ updated figures, which means sales of the Fiesta could be higher.
