Top Gear takes over Tower Bridge in a tank
01 September 2008 Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May brought chaos to London’s streets – as they crossed Tower Bridge in a modified black tank. Clarkson, Hammond and May wowed stunned onlookers and stopped traffic in one of London’s busiest hotspots as the black, Top Gear-liveried military tank thundered across Tower Bridge, flanked by a Ferrari F430 and an Aston Martin DBS. The trio shut down the iconic London landmark to promote the launch of Top Gear’s live show, which debuts in London’s Earl’s Court in October. Jeremy said: “We still harbour the desire to be rock stars on the big stage.” Jeremy Clarkson – who has been put in charge of the tours – said a number of exciting features would thrill audiences at the shows, including how the trio would rule London. He said: “Big Ben is coming everywhere with us, to give it a bit of Britishness.” Richard Hammond said: “We’ll be pushing the boundaries of c*cking about. We’ll build hovercrafts, drift supercars and host a global football challenge. “Nothing will be broken… except everything.” This year’s Top Gear Live MPH show will offer up more than £20 million worth of priceless metal and a range of interactive features, including a Cool Wall where the audience will have a chance to vote. “Not that it matters”, James May noted, “as Clarkson will decide anyway.” View more images of the Top Gear trio riding across Tower Bridge in a tank Top Gear Live kicks off from 30 October to 2 November in London’s Earl’s Court, and will head to the NEC in Birmingham between 13-16 November.
