More than 1,000 customers have placed an order for the new 300bhp Ford Focus RS – even though range colours aren’t known yet.

The new 2008 Ford Focus RS made its debut at the 2008 British International Motor Show wowing performance fans.

And Ford has been “inundated” with orders for the fastest Focus – even though it has not confirmed any colour schemes.

At the car’s launch Ford confirmed it was “open” to producing the bright green shade seen on the show car on display at London’s Earls Court, but had not settled on colours as yet.

Most customers have specified ‘Electric Green’, while other popular colours include ‘Frozen White’ and ‘Electric Blue’.

Managing director of Ford, Roelant de Waard, said: “We’re delighted by the reaction of performance car enthusiasts to the new Focus RS and that so many want to place orders, even though it will not be available until early next year.”

The Ford Focus RS is the most powerful hot hatch the company has ever built.

It features a 2.5-litre turbocharged engine producing nearly 300bhp - 90bhp more than the previous Ford Focus RS - and Ford insiders say the new Focus RS should be capable of reaching 60mph in less than six seconds, before reaching a top speed of more than 150mph.

Ford has even designed a new technology it calls ‘RevoKnuckle’ to optimise the front suspension setup and make the Focus RS handle better than any front-wheel-drive car it has built before.
