15 May 2008 Dominic Sacco rounds up the very best from the Auto Trader Blog. It’s the question which every Top Gear fan wants answering – and we gave you the opportunity to do so. So far you’ve left over 150 comments about who the mysterious driver might be, from Jason Plato to Lewis Hamilton, and even JK from Jamiroquai. One user, Cal, said: “I work in the motorsport industry and know at least two national racing drivers who have been the Stig – one of them is Ben Collins, the other I can’t name.” We asked you which car you think would make the best super saloon, by pitting the Lexus IS-F, BMW M3, Audi RS4 and Mercedes C63 AMG against each other. And the verdict was clear – the M3 was hailed as the pick of the bunch. Congestion charge revamp: good or bad? Previous Mayor of London Ken Livingstone announced a price rise for the congestion charge in February, and we gave you the platform to air your opinion. William said: “I totally agree with the charge – London is just a smog-filled dump,” whereas Davey thought the opposite: “It’s a very expensive way of achieving very little, as TFL’s own figures state it has had no impact on pollution.” “We need to tackle the problem, not just raise the charge to justify a badly thought out scheme.” Did Michael Schumacher quit F1 too soon?
Did Schumacher regret quitting in 2006? We asked if you’d like to see the world-famous F1 driver make a comeback. Mike Kane is one man who would. “Schumacher is undoubtedly the absolute king and would still win another championship in 2008.” Wobbletastic, on the other hand, was happy to see him go: “He didn’t leave soon enough for me... I hope Kimi wipes the floor with him in testing.” But Dale Hesketh stood up for the Ferrari driver: “Michael Schumacher will always be the ruler of F1 for a very long time. He received £1m a race and had the focus to match.” When the Government announced an increase in fuel tax, you flocked to our blog with heated reaction, kicking off a colossal debate. Dave said: “Rip-off Britain strikes again. The cheek of saying these price raises are for the benefit of the environment is enough to make my blood boil.” There were few comments in favour of the tax increase – Mark was one of them: "It’s about time people who choose a more polluting car were made to pay more for the disadvantages they cause to society. Well done chancellor." And Ozzie just thinks we all need to wake up. “The public needs to take action but unfortunately we’re stuck in a system where we don’t have the time or energy to do so.” The 2008 Budget Report is currently the most popular post on the blog. “Tasteless” Citroen ad angers MPs
The ‘unmistakeably German’ Citroen C5 television advert which features a smartly-dressed man partaking in a sword fight, was deemed “tasteless” by politicians in April. We put the video on our blog and asked what you thought about it. BoA Wrath answered our question with another question: “I’m sure the Germans wouldn’t find this tongue in cheek, but since when have car adverts nowadays been anything about the cars?” And one user, Foul, had this to say – “What a great advert! Stereotypes are what advertising is all about - when will politicians understand that?” How much are you paying for petrol? With UK fuel prices at an all-time high, we asked how much petrol costs where you live. The lowest price was reported by Roland who said a Tesco Express in West Sussex was selling petrol for 107p per litre. The highest was spotted by Will Heslop in North Yorkshire, where one station is selling petrol for 123p per litre. He said: “I travel to and from college each day can barely afford the fuel.” Matt countered the negative comments with one of his own: “Stop complaining, all of you. Relative to what your weekly wage is, petrol’s cheaper than it’s ever been. Move closer to work or buy a bicycle.” |
