Formula One Special

Formula One cars are built for one purpose; to get round a track as quickly as possible.

They’re ultra-light, super-aerodynamic and frighteningly fast.

Put one up against a supercar or a family car and you’d think the result would be one-sided.

Unless you handicap it:

F1 Ferrari VS Ferrari 550 VS Fiat Bravo

Surely an 80bhp Fiat Bravo is no match for Michael Schumacher in his 1996 F1 car. Or is it?

Chuck in a 199mph Ferrari 550 with staggered starts and you’ve got an enticing encounter.

F1 McLaren TAG VS Porsche 928 VS Ford Sierra

Thirteen years prior to Mr Schumacher racing a Fiat in his F1 car, the McLaren team carried out a similar exercise.

They put retired F1 champ James Hunt in the big-selling, but slow accelerating Ford Sierra and pitted him against a Porsche 924 driven by 1982 F1 runner-up John Watson and Niki Lauder in his F1 McLaren.

Ferrari F40 VS Jordan F1 Car

The Ferrari F40 was the world’s first ever 200mph production car when it was unveiled in 1987.

Designed as an F1 car for the road, it’s one of the most exclusive cars ever built. A used one will set you back £200,000 today.
