A Ferrari F430 driven by Nicolas Cage’s stunt driver has crashed in New York during filming of the Hollywood star’s next flick.

The stuntman was driving down Times Square when the Italian supercar appears to skid out of control and career onto the pavement.

Two pedestrians suffered non-life threatening injuries during the incident with the driver unhurt.

The Ferrari was evading a Mercedes as part of a chase for Cage’s new film, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice when the incident took place, captured fully on film.

English tourist Mark Watkins told the New York Post: “The Ferrari took a route down the centre of the road, swerving between cars. The Mercedes took the outside lanes.

"The Ferrari took a sharp right to the left and lost it, swerving across the lanes, taking out a lamppost and a news stand.

"One lady was knocked to the ground and a lamppost landed directly on top of a chap."

The production company later released a statement saying the two pedestrians were taken to hospital for checks but later released.

Nicolas Cage is one of Hollywood’s biggest petrolheads having owned a whole host of automotive exotica over the years including a Ferrari F40 and Bugatti Type 57.

He’s probably best known in motoring circles for his role as car thief Memphis Raines in the box office smash Gone in 60 Seconds.

In the 2000 film, Raines and his team, including Angelina Jolie, had to steal 50 luxury cars in one night including a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang which resulted in one of the best ever cinematic chases.
