This is the Mastretta MXT – a 240bhp all-new two-seater sports car which will be unveiled at next week’s British motor show.

The Mastretta MXT is the first sportscar to be designed and built in Mexico and will compete against the likes of the Lotus Elise, BMW Z4 coupe, and the Porsche Cayman.

The new Mastretta MXT features a 2-litre turbocharged Duratec engine from Ford which produces 240bhp and 184lb/ft of pulling power.

This means Mexico’s newest export can accelerate from 0-62mph in under five seconds and hit a top speed of 150mph.

The new Mexican-built Mastretta MXT sends it 240 horses to the rear wheels and features an ultra-lightweight body made from aircraft-style technology including bonded aluminium and high quality fibreglass.

And these lightweight materials keep the new Mastretta MXT’s weight down to just 900kgs – the equivalent of a Lotus Elise – despite a full leather interior and air-conditioning.

Daniel Mastretta said: “We needed to create a great car because Mexico has no tradition of sophisticated sports car manufacturing.

“We want to make our country proud of the MXT and to show the world what we can do.”

The MXT will be exported all over Europe via Lifestyle Automotive.

Tom Martin of Lifestyle Automotive said: “Customers who place orders at the show will be able to register their cars in May next year.

“The Mastretta MXT on display at the 2008 British motor show is the penultimate prototype.”

Mastretta reckons Vehicle Certification Agency testing will be complete by October, and the first right-hand drive models will start production in January. Production is limited to 80 cars a year.

Prices for the all-new Mastretta MXT start at £32,999.
