The most mouth-watering Renault Megane Trophy ever conceived has been unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show.

Built for the World Series By Renault saloon car championship, the Renault Megane Trophy is fitted with a 360bhp 3.5-litre V6 engine.

The engine is fitted in the middle of the car, behind the driver, for the best possible weight distribution.

A six-speed gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters allows gear changes which take less than one second.

During 2009 the rakish Renault Megane Trophy will battle it out in the prestigious one-make racing series which takes in circuits all over Europe.

Its stunning bodywork is based on the new Megane Coupe and sits low to the ground and is incredibly wide, allowing its chassis and tyres to provide immense cornering grip.

Aerodynamics have been improved by more than 40 per cent over the 2007 Renault Megane Trophy, helping to suck the car to the ground and improve lap times.

Races last for around 40 minutes, with two being held in each racing weekend – and at least one pit stop is mandatory.

The latest Renault Megane road car has also made its debut at the Paris Motor Show featuring updated looks and greater economy.

Four models in the Megane range will offer carbon dioxide emissions of less than 120g/km, which means tax will cost £35 or less.

Star cars also unveiled in Paris include the awesome Lamborghini Estoque, Volkswagen Golf GTI, Ferrari California, Seat Ibiza Cupra, BMW X1 and Ford Ka.
