Geneva 2009 debut: Lamborghini Murcielago SV

You can’t have a motor show without Lamborghini unveiling a stunning new car.
Geneva sees the debut of the Lamborghini Murcielago LP-670 SuperVeloce - and it’s one serious head-turner.
In normal guise the Murcielago is something special but the SuperVeloce is an even more intoxicating blend of drama, power and downright lunacy.
The Lambo’s 6.5-litre V12 engine now develops 670bhp – up from 640bhp – making it more powerful than the fighter jet-inspired Reventon which debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show 18 months ago.
And weight is reduced by 100kg with the introduction of carbon fibre bodywork, except for the steel roof and external door panels.
All this helps to contribute to a 0-62mph time of just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 212mph – making it the fastest ever production Lamborghini.
We’d expect the SuperVeloce to be the last hurrah for the Murcielago which has been in production since 2001 with a new model – possibly known as the Jota – replacing it towards the end of next year.
It’s another successful show for Lamborghini following the debut of the Estoque at Paris and the Gallardo LP560-4 which was first shown at Geneva last year.
