The 2008 British Motor Show is in full swing with the likes of the Ford Focus RS, Lotus Evora, Vauxhall Insignia and Alfa Romeo MiTo making their global debuts.

Adrian Hearn has rounded up footage of some of the most exciting cars on show in London, including the Vauxhall Insignia.

Vauxhall Insignia

The 2008 Vauxhall Insignia is one of the most important launches in years for General Motors.

Replacing the outgoing Vectra, the Vauxhall Insignia will be targeting the super-competitive mid-sized family saloon market which includes the likes of the Ford Mondeo and BMW 3 Series.

The Vauxhall Insignia made its official debut on press day at the British Motor Show, but the day before passers-by on the London Thames were in for a surprise.

With Tower Bridge as a backdrop, a Vauxhall Insignia was lowered from 50 metres in the air to the ground with a group of violinists providing the musical score.

Corvette ZR1

Making its UK debut at the ExCeL-based show was the Corvette ZR1 – the company’s fastest ever motor thanks to its 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine packing a cool 634bhp.

This huge power – channelled to the rear wheels – will rocket the American muscle car from 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds, 0-100mph in seven seconds before running on to a top speed of 205mph.

Production of the ZR1 will be limited with only ten coming to the UK. Those lucky enough to get their hands on the sports car will have to pay around £100,000 for the privilege.

Renault Megane Renaultsport R26.R

With the hype leading up to the unveiling of the Ford Focus RS it was easy to overlook the launch of the Renault Megane Renaultsport R26.R.

A stripped out version of the standard Megane hot hatch, the Renault Megane Renaultsport R26.R has shed 126kg and benefited from a firmer suspension and uprated brakes.
