Bernie Ecclestone’s rare Rolls-Royce for sale
07 May 2009
A rare 1983 Rolls-Royce Camargue previously owned by F1 head honcho Bernie Ecclestone and Sheikh Al Maktoum is for sale on Auto Trader.
Ecclestone was the second owner of the two-door coupe, with Sheikh Al Maktoum of one of the UAE’s royal families the original owner.
As with royalty you would expect a car decked out with luxury and the Rolls is no different with Al Maktoum specifying the motor to feature gold door handles.
The Rolls-Royce Camargue was launched in 1975 and was styled by Pininfarina making it the first post-war Roller not designed in-house.
Just 531 were built over an 11 year period with the 5.1-metre car powered by a 6.75-litre V8 engine developing 238bhp.
With this on tap, the 2.3-ton coupe could accelerate from 0-62mph in 9.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 123mph.
This particular model, adorned in leather, has covered just 8,000 miles in its 26-year life with Ecclestone buying it in 1995.
Billionaire Ecclestone is well-known for his cars and in 2007 auctioned off a huge chunk of his collection in London with his 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadaster fetching £3.7 million.
Now you can get your hands on the Rolls-Royce Camargue, which is being sold by Deca Motors International, for £54,950.
The Hertfordshire-based dealer is also offering a Lamborghini LM002 – the Italian supercar maker’s 4x4 from the 1980s.
The LM002 earned the nickname ‘Rambo Lambo’ with the likes of Sylvester Stallone and the Sultan of Brunei having previously owned models.
Powered by a 5.2-litre V12 engine from the Lamborghini Countach, the LM002 produces 444bhp and has a top speed of 130mph – with power channelled to all four-wheels through a manual gearbox.
This model was shipped into the UK from South Africa and is number 129 of 500 with 24,000 miles on the clock. It’s yours for £55,950.
