Handling kings Lotus has announced details of a limited edition Exige Sprint with prices starting from £44,550.

The Lotus Exige Sprint has two-tone paint work inspired by the legendary Lotus Elan Sprint and a host of distinctive features including an individually numbered chassis.

Lotus has also fitted the Exige Sprint with a touring pack which improves the driver’s comfort, noise insulation, a unique interior trim and leather seats.

The Exige also gets the sport pack featuring traction control and a roll-over bar.

But it’s the Lotus’ handling and performance which will appeal to potential buyers.

With a supercharged 1.8-litre engine, the Lotus Exige Sprint accelerates from 0-60mph in four seconds, 0-100mph in ten seconds before topping out at 146mph.

This is 7mph slower than the current range-topping Exige S Performance, which is also £4,000 cheaper.

The Lotus Exige Sprint is being built to celebrate the start of production at the firm’s Hethel plant in Norfolk in 1967.

But just 40 of the special edition sports car will be built – one for every year of production, except for 1982, the year of founder Colin Chapman’s death.

Prices for the Lotus Exige Sprint start from £42,550 with each car coming with a heritage pack containing a certificate signed by Lotus chief executive Mike Kimberley and a copy of William Taylor’s ‘The Lotus Book’.
