A 211mph Porsche CTR Yellowbird converted by RUF is for sale on Auto Trader.

RUF modified the 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 for its owner in 1989, turning it into the world’s fastest road-legal car.

The German car maker increased the engine size from 3.2- to 3.4-litres, fitted an uprated fuel injection, an all-new twin-turbocharger and used the ignition from a Porsche 962 Le Mans car.

The result was 469bhp and 408lb/ft of pulling power, meaning 0-60mph in 4 seconds and a top speed of 211mph – in 1989.

This made the Yellowbird the world’s fastest car of its time, thrashing the Ferrari F40’s top speed of 201mph.

On top of the engine modifications, RUF ripped out 200kg of surplus weight, uprated the suspension and fitted bespoke fibreglass bumpers and air intake ducts.

It was also the fastest road-legal car to lap the Nürburgring when it managed an eight minute 22 seconds blitz in 1989 – although the current record is a six minute 55 second lap by the Radical SR8.

Just 29 standard RUF CTR Yellowbirds were built, with the German brand converting a further 20 for performance-seeking buyers.

It got the name Yellowbird from Road and Track magazine who  - on the day of a photoshoot - noticed the contrast created by its yellow paintwork against the overcast skies.c

This bright green Yellowbird was imported to the UK in 1997 and has two UK owners.

Now you can get your hands on the classic supercar – which has covered just 26,000 miles in 21 years – for £89,995.
