Fancy an Alfa Romeo Enos? Or an Alfa Romeo Furiosa? Or how about an Alfa Romeo Velvetta?

Officials at the Italian marque have put the decision for naming the replacement for the outgoing Alfa Romeo 147 to members of the public.

And the lucky winner will receive a brand new Alfa Spider.

Although the replacement for the 147 is just around the corner, bosses at Alfa Romeo have not yet settled on a name for the new B-segment hatch, and have asked the public to choose from a list of 12 names.

To enter, residents of Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Japan and the UK can log on to the Alfa Romeo naming website and choose one of 12 names: Agea, Enos, Everson, Fira, Furiosa, Milo, Mod, Nevo, Solea, Sparvo, Velvetta and Ventura.

Alfa boss Antonio Baravelle revealed the company’s tradition of numbering their cars would be dropped in favour of individual names for each new model.

But the naming competition is not the company’s first.

Back in 1966, Alfa Romeo launched a similar competition, asking members of the public to vote for the name of the next car – and the winner was the famous Spider Duetto.

Alfa is looking for a name which has an “Italian ring to it; a name that conveys energy and dynamism; that’s forward looking, with a nod to the youth of today.”

Volkswagen named its baby SUV – the Tiguan – after a similar competition, conducting an online poll with 300,000 readers of a German automotive magazine to pick the winner.
