An ultra-rare Tangiers Orange Range Rover Sport used in the gruelling Land Rover G4 Challenge is for sale on Auto Trader.

This 2005 ‘55’ plate Range Rover Sport was used in the Bangkok to Laos stage of the 2006 challenge which takes place every three years.

The 2006 G4 rally involved nine Range Rover Sports driven by 18 competitors from different countries with this particular model driven by Gary Robertson from Ireland and Tolga Senefe from Turkey.

To cope with the prospect of driving through some of the world's toughest terrain, the Range Rover Sport G4s were fitted with roof racks, snorkel, winches and spot lights while under the bonnet is a 4.4-litre V8 engine developing 369bhp and 295lb/ft of pulling power.

On smooth tarmac this means 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds and a top speed of 130mph – but the photos here show it’s the rough stuff where the Range Rover Sport G4 shines.

As a HSE trim model, the Range Rover Sport G4 is also a pleasant car to sit inside, featuring luxuries such as sat-nav, all-round electrics, leather seats, climate control and a Harman Kardon sound system with six-CD autochanger.

After the event, the Range Rover Sport G4 was sold by Land Rover to its current owner Tim Jones of Somerset-based Volvo specialist Formula Cars who has owned the off-roader for 18 months.

There are just 34 Range Rover Sport G4s worldwide – cars which are unmistakable thanks to the cosmetic extras and bright Tangiers Orange paintwork.

It’s believed each Range Rover Sport G4 cost around £80,000 to make, but you can get your hands on this model, which has been to the far reaches of Vietnam and come back unscathed for £30,995.

Video: It's an exciting time for recently-bought company Land Rover which has been showing off its amazing LRX concept at recent motor shows.
