21 July 2008 A limited edition version of Mercedes’ fastest ever production car, the Mercedes McLaren SLR, is for sale on Auto Trader – for £269,995. The German-British Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 Edition got its name from the 1955 Mille Miglia endurance race which Stirling Moss and his co-pilot Denis Jenkinson won in a Mercedes 300 SLR after setting off at 7.22am. Powered by a tuned version of the SLR’s 5.5-litre V8 engine, the Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 Edition produces 650bhp – up from the SLR’s standard 617bhp. View our slide show of the Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 This accelerates the Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 Edition from 0-62mph (100kph) in 3.6 seconds (up from 3.8), 0-124mph (200kph) in 10.2 seconds (up from 10.6) and 0-186mph (300kph) in 28 seconds (up from 28.8). At full revs, the German-British hypercar will be moving at 209mph – just 1mph quicker than the standard SLR. But while it’s only slightly quicker than the standard model, this is only a small aspect of the car’s improvement. New 670bhp Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series The Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 Edition has a stiffer suspension meaning bodyroll is reduced by 20 per cent, while the 19-inch alloys house a set of enormous 390mm Brembo disc brakes. And after 100 hours of wind tunnel tests, engineers managed to make some discreet adjustments which managed to add 172kg of downforce to make the SLR 722 more stable at high speeds. Brabus builds Rooney's next ride Overall weight was reduced by 44kg with the introduction of a host of carbon fibre features while the interior gets the 722 insignia on the head restraints along with everyday luxuries such as climate control, all-round electrics and a CD with multi-changer. Just 150 Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 Edition were built at McLaren’s factory in Woking, Surrey. While costing around £300,000 went it went on sale last year, this Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 Edition – with 9,500 miles on the clock – is on the market for £269,995.
