Richard Hammond: "I nearly quit Top Gear"
08 September 2008 Richard Hammond has exclusively revealed to Auto Trader that he considered quitting his role as presenter on BBC 2’s Top Gear. The diminutive star was involved in a life threatening accident two years ago when his jet-propelled dragster car crashed into a field at nearly 300mph during filming for the hit motoring programme. Speaking to Auto Trader, Richard Hammond said: “I very nearly quit everything. I nearly quit Top Gear.” The accident left Richard – nicknamed ‘Hamster’ by co-hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May – in a critical condition for weeks, before he made an amazing recovery back to full health. Who is the Stig? Have your say on the Auto Trader Blog Richard recently revealed how the accident left him completely vulnerable to emotions, forcing him to learn different things over again. He has since said that Lego and Top Trumps helped him nurse his way back to recovery. The exclusive interview with Richard also revealed what it’s really like working with Jeremy Clarkson and James May.
