Retro Porsche 911 Sport Classic announced
Porsche is to build just 250 retro-looking 911 Sport Classics, with unique features aimed at the dyed-in-the-wool Porsche enthusiast.
Based on the 911 Carrera S, the main change is the distinctive ‘ducktail’ rear spoiler which pays tribute to the legendary 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 and drastically changes the demeanour of the 997 coupe.
The exclusive Sport Classic Grey paint is subtly accentuated with light racing stripes and the roof has double-dome, for the authentic Le-Mans look.
Most likely to get Porsche fans hot under the collar are the custom-made 19-inch alloy wheels which hark back to the ‘Fuchs-style’ wheels fitted to classic 911s.
The 911 Sport Classic is rear-wheel drive, but shares the stretched rear bodywork from the four-wheel drive Carrera 4S, which is 44mm wider and has room for the rear wheels to sit 34mm further apart for extra grip.
The 3.8-litre ‘boxer’ engine develops 408bhp, channelled through a short-shift six-speed gearbox, and accelerates the 911 from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 187mph.
It’s 23bhp up on the standard Carrera S thanks to a newly developed intake system and modified cylinder heads. And, it’s not all go and now show – there’s a carbon fibre air filter housing to impress anyone looking under the bonnet.
For ultimate stopping power, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are fitted as standard.
The interior is a departure from Porsche’s typically black interiors, with ‘Espresso Nature’ brown covering the woven leather used in the seats and door trims and the natural leather found lining the dashboard.
The Porsche 911 Sport Classic will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show this month.
