Range Rover LRX to be built

Land Rover has confirmed its Range Rover LRX concept car will go on sale in 2011.
The production version of the Range Rover LRX will make it the smallest, lightest and most efficient vehicle the company has ever produced.
It's likely to include the 2-litre diesel hybrid powertrain from the LRX, emitting just 120g/km of CO2 – placing it into tax band C at £30 per year.
The small 4x4 will combine a traditional SUV feel with coupe-style looks and an efficient engine, which could make it the most affordable Land Rover to run.
Performance figures, price and a confirmed name have yet to be revealed. However Land Rover said the production LRX will not include an entry-level, sub-Freelander price. The cheapest Land Rover Freelander is currently £21,295 - expect the LRX to cost substantially more than this.
As well as announcing the LRX, Land Rover tuner Overfinch has revealed a version styled by gunmakers, Holland and Holland - complete with gun rack and drinks cabinet.
The news comes as Jaguar Land Rover set out a new business plan to respond to climate change, including more hybrids and development of fuel-efficient technology. They plan to close one of their two UK factories over the next year but assure us no jobs will be lost.
Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern said: "The new vehicle will stay true to the concept and have many recognisable Range Rover design cues including the signature clamshell bonnet, floating roof and solid 'wheel-at-each-corner' stance."
Land Rover MD Phil Popham said: “The compact size, lighter weight and sustainability-focused technologies of the LRX Concept showed how Land Rover is planning to respond to the needs of the changing world."
The LRX will be built at Land Rover's Halewood plant on Merseyside and is planned to be sold in over 100 countries.
Full details of the new Range Rover will be revealed next year and the car will go on sale in 2011.
